Best 200TW tire for aTT event

what do you think is the best 200TW tire for a TT event. Car is a stock 2018 SS 1LE.

From the Tire Rack test looks like it's the RE-71R

The most significant figure in the Tire Rack test is the lap time, and all four tires look like they're within the margin of error of each other. In autocross, the BF Goodrich and the Bridgestone are regarded as the best.
Another good source of information is testing by Grassroots Motorsports. If I recall correctly, GRM testing is done with a Miata, and I just don't know if the results with that car on small tires correlate to the results you'll get on a Camaro.
you also need to consider the conditions you driving in. If your time trial format involves continuous lapping on a hot day, Hankook may rise above.

All of the 'super 200s' are optimized for AutoX, which means they heat up quickly, but can get too hot on a normal road race track. For TT, it's not as much of a problem as for W2W, you just have to realize your best lap is likely going to be early in a session. A lot of the chumpcar guys seem to like the RS4 Hankook, but it's a little slower than the RE71R or Rival.

Are you stuck with 200TW by rule? The series I run allows any DOT tire, but assesses classing points for TW <200...

The TT series I'm looking at is limited to 200TW

What size tires are you planning to run? That may limit your tire choice...

Edit: looks like most are available in 305/30-19.

Rival S 1.5 and RE71 are probably the 2 fastest.

The Rival takes heat better and lasts a bit longer than the RE71. We have actually done full 8 hour races on our E30 at Road America on the Rival. With shockingly consistent lap times. Admittedly a light car, but not huge tires (225’s). However, the feel of the rival is a bit numb, especially on turn in.

The RE71 likely has more ultimate grip, though only by a little. They seem to get hot quicker, and greasy if you’re sliding them a lot. I think they can be recovered, but it takes a few laps. I really like the feel of them though.

For TT, 2 things would matter to me:
1. do you do your best laps early in a session, or work up to your best times. When I did a lot of TT, I was a person who would do their best lap between #6-8. If you’re like that, I’d suggest Rivals. If you can go out and put down your best time early on, like lap 2-4, RE71 will probably be better.
2. How important is feel? Most of my time is in lighter racecars (s2000, e30, cayman), and I value feel a lot. To me, my 1LE just doesn’t return as much feel as those other cars. If you have the need for a sharper feel, RE71 is better.

While I like the RS4, testing has shown us they are 1-2 seconds a lap slower than the Rival, depending on track size. But they wear like iron

Give the RS4s a thought, they have about 95% of the “hero lap” pace of the RE71R but are a much better track tire. They don’t heat up nd get greasy very quickly like the REs do.

Only way I’d go with the Rivals is if you’re gonna go down to a 18s and run 315 front & 335 rear.

RS4s all the way. Currently running 305 square on my car. When I had a S2000 I ran both the RE71R and the RS4. I was quicker on the RS4s.

Good info guys thanks. I was leaning toward the RS4 mainly for wear but good to hear they are also fast. Now to compare the RS4 to the G3, RS4 may be a couple of seconds/lap faster

Not seconds. Same driver, same track, same day- .8-1.0 second on a 1:30 min track.
