Swirls are an abrasion to the clearcoat and they certainly do come out with polishing. I’ve never seen a swirl that can stand up to a good two stage polish.

Now scratches are different story.

they can come out with hard buffing and compound, but don't let the dealer attempt it.
Every car I've ever bought from a dealer had swirls, all brand new cars. I don't understand why but they seem to use crap, inferior quality towels or whatever, they don't truly rinse the cars when washing, allowing dirt that settles onto the car to simply get rubbed into the paint. It's inevitable and unavoidable. Have a reputable detail place do the paint correction, then do a ceramic coat.

Really what I needed to hear. Thank you truly. I have told the dealer to cancel the buff job. I will be accepting the car as is tomorrow and worry about the rest later.

As I said it fills in or camouflages the scratches. A scratch or a swirl mark is an area of missing paint, whether it’s clear or color coat.
So unless you spray it with more paint, nothing else can remove the scratch.
You need to read online about light reflection in car paint, there was a good article by a body shop with diagrams. It focused on buffing the area around the scratch or swirl to remove even more paint. That makes the angle less sharp and reduces the appearance of the scratch.

If you think paint correction fills in a scratch with actual paint I can’t help you any further. “Car cleaning guru” has a good definition of paint correction, notice the part about reflecting light:

Paint correction is a term that is now commonly used by both professional car detailers and car cleaning enthusiasts worldwide to describe the process of restoring and rejuvenating the paintwork of a vehicle, mostly through the elimination of surface imperfections, that dull, oxidize, or haze the surface by reflecting light off in various directions, therefore detracting from a true and proper, clean, sharp, reflection. These imperfections include things like swirl marks & fine scratches, bird dropping etching & acid rain etching, hologramming & buffer trails, and random isolated deep scratches (or RIDS).

The company that first comes out with a clear coat like substance that spreads and fills in voids (thus restoring light reflection to a level close to that of the original smooth clear), can bond to the original clear and is hard enough, yet can be buffed off quickly after application when sufficiently thin, will make an absolute killing. Some sort of ceramic coat might work, but then I am not an expert or even a detailer.

Funny, I just posted this on the light scratch thread, there is something like that already out.

They are also releasing a "spray on" PPF. No seams or problems with corners, you just spray it on like you would paint(tovthe point you need the same equipment, so probably expensive)
