Front Brakes Dealer Quote
I need new front Brembos on 2019 Camaro 2SS. It’s gone 23k miles. Dealer wants $950. Does this sound like a good price?

The exact oem parts (rotors and pads) can be shipped to your door for under $400 bucks. They are up charging you like crazy for the parts. Rotors should be roughly $210 shipped (shipping is expensive on rotors) and pads are roughly $160.00

They didn't advertise for rear brakes or rotors. Roger Dean Chevy had the same offer within a few $$$$. I would check the website of the dealer who gave you what seems to be a high quote. It's really an easy install -- Brembos are a breeze to do pads on. With 23k miles on the car, I doubt you need rotors.
To change pads, it's literally pop out 2 pins and retaining clip, use old pads to compress pistons, remove old pads, slide in new pads, re-install retaining clip and 2 pins. Not sure if SS brakes have shims & lube on front and/or rear, but those are simple extra steps. About an hour job to do all four. Where in NJ are you? I may be able to help.

Like others have said, bad deal. Just get new pads and install them yourself. It's very easy. You need like 4 tools.
Torque wrench for wheel nuts. a 13mm (I believe, could be wrong) for the caliper nut a skinny tool to push the pins out something to push the pins in, could just tap them with a wrench To separate the pads from the rotors you can just use your hands to push the pad out against the pistons. After you're all done just check the brake fluid level and change that too if you'd like. Plenty of youtube videos on this stuff. If you don't feel comfortable then buy the parts yourself and check with a local shop for them to do it. |

As others have said... not no, but hell no...! Brakes really are not difficult. Watch a YouTube Video and do them yourself. Maybe a buddy that knows how? If you have to take it in, I most certainly would call around and get other quotes.

For god sakes no.
I'm a girl and just took off my rear rotors and pads to clean the rust and imprint off them at 25k. It was an easy job. The hardest part about this job is breaking the caliper bolts loose and that's IF you're doing rotors. If just the pads then the hardest part is getting the tire off. No. Just no. |

Important to know if rotors are parts of this price ($950). If it is just pads, the price is absurd, even if they turn the old rotors (which they should).
yes, brakes are pretty easy. But I know many guys who fancy themselves handymen or DIY'ers, but don't trust themselves to touch brakes. I get it. I would find out exactly what's included for the dealer price. I would suggest getting a price from a local mechanic. Offer to buy the parts yourself and just pay for labor. This is probably your cheapest option short of full DIY. Plus you can switch to ceramic pads if you don't track the car. |
