are the rubber air deflectors functional?

Im wondering if the black rubber dams in front of each front wheel serve a function? I was going to remove them to get up and down Rhino ramps easier doing oil changes.

I took mine off in the first weekend. They are not needed on a daily driver for me. I also use ramps.

The corvette gm engineers say they help above 125 mph, ill put them back on when i race daytona.

But stay tuned here, some will post its blasphemy to take them off....

In my opinion, the air deflectors serve a purpose (sure the GM engineers used a wind tunnel to optimize them) but they are ugly on that pretty face. After the front splitter goes on, their effect is probably low. Mine will be coming off once the splitter is installed.

Subscribed. I've been wondering about them too. They always catch curbs when I pull in.

I was wondering if they had another purpose to prevent dirty water from splashing forward when the tires go into a puddle on roads and up into the lower plastic areas thru the cracks, which then might dry and build up junk or heavy water pressure damaging the plastic?

Just wondering.

BLASPHEMY! HOW DARE YOU TAKE IT OFF?!?! SELL YOUR CAR NOW! Just kidding...

They are good to have as they also deflect random crap that might fly under your vehicle and perhaps damage it, like rocks or some random debris. Are they 100% needed? No. Are they good to have? Yes. Want to take em off and not have any issues? Yes.

Think of them as an extra layer of protection for the underside of the vehicle in some cases but it's "extra" and the car will be just fine without them lol.

Wow...You guys have a great sense of imagination...The fact that GM spent hundreds of hours in a windtunnel and wouldn't have added them without some real reason for them to be there....LOL....Whatever, Take em off if you don't like them

Not really imagination. I have had cars that tossed up junk into the front area by the tires(which did not have a lot of plastic like the camaro) and built up in cracks and crevices, that caused rust.
Plus i have seen how truckers in Australia use mud flaps up front under the bumper to prevent stones & junk from being tossed forward from under the truck by the tires.
So i just kinda put it together as another reason they maybe saw in testing after lots of road tests.
