Maybe its regional thing although Lingenfelter does have a shop down here in DFW but I NEVER encounter ANY of their cars on the road courses actually racing. You see a few at car shows occasionally. I did see one at an Optima challenge event down here a few years ago but it was non-competitive and typically those are are autocross type events anyway.

They have certainly made a name for themselves but there are numerous shops that put out faster combinations for much less coin especially down here in the the southwest like AMP, GWATNEY PERFORMANCE, LMR etc.

AMP and GPI is a mistake for this usage imo

My primary point was that all of questions about LT1 have been investigated and answered by the top shops, so, although this site has a bunch of very experienced and knowledgeable members, there's no need search for answers. Of course shops charge for their expertise.

Well I wanted REAL WORLD feedback from everyone's PERSONAL experience. A shop can tell you anything and maybe its true and maybe its not.

That was the reason for my post. Again I appreciate everyone's feedback.

For instance it is NOT a good idea to use a higher stall speed convertor generally in road racing applications because you dont want to affect the shifting characteristics. The A10 does a wonderful job in TRACK MODE in making sure the car is in the RPM power band. RARELY even on slower parts of a road course is the engine rpm EVER below around 4000 RPM.

Higher stall speed convertors inherently have more slippage built into them which is great for drag racing to help get the car off the line faster but it is not something that is desirable in my application. The slippage results in higher tranny temps as well.

I am rethinking the CAM selection but I will post it up here along with the DYNO when it is installed.
Katech should definitely be on the list of people you should talk to. They specialize in road course racing so they could very easily set you up with a cam just for that.

Conclusion

Ok well thanks for all the input guys. I am going to try something here that is unconventional and see if it works. The variable that works greatly in my favor is that I use a tuner that I consider the best in the business and I have seen him make HUGE cams work well in situations that most people cant.

Since I have an A10, a BROAD power band is not as neccessary as it would be if I had a manual. As mentioned before the car RARELY sees less than 4000 RPM even in the slowest parts of a road course.

I will post up numbers after install and gladly share with you if I *ucked up on the cam selection but I am pretty confident that wont happen. Go BIG or GO HOME!!

So, in closing, what all are you doing to it other than a huge cam?

Well that's an excellent question and I am not sure at this time. I left it pretty open ended with AMP and I told them whatever they needed to do was fine with me with the exception of cutting a hole in the hood or running a non-stock convertor. It should be done however in the next two weeks and i will post back. THIS weekend I am taking the car to Eagles Canyon Raceway with the APEX folks to get some timed laps in.

The stock converter is going to be another limitation on how big he can get with the cam selection. I'm sure he's got one selected for your application but it won't be HUGE like you're thinking.

We all knew you’re a AMP fanboi lol
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Good luck!

Let us know how it goes

I wouldn't go that far. He's good at tuning but if it came down to actual Gurus for na power I'd put Pray or Ryan Stevens (GPI) ahead of anybody else. Good luck and hopefully it works out for you.
