The main thing is we have CHOICES. I chose Camaro. Case closed.

IDGAF how fast a Crustang or for that matter, any other car is. Power is not the total reasoning of why I buy a car. They're lighter, powerful, and are a good car for Mustang lovers. I admire them as a friendly foe. Like the sports teams...RedSox/Yankees, Cubs/Cardinals, Redskins/Cowboys...even Pepsi/Coke. on the track they go toe to toe. Rivalries are good. We all end up with a better product.

I think we are mostly in agreement.

Fair enough. I didnt include those simply because they are not what one normally thinks of when talking about regular GTs and SS.

New mustang is 200lbs lighter than the old one, which was 3450-3650 depending on mods which would mean the 2015 mustang is ~3250-3450lbs if Ford isn't lying and 450+hp v8 so government mandates aren't hurting that bad.

I have not seen anything difinitive on weight yet. Not saying it isnt out there yet, I just havent seen it. From what I've gathered to this point there is a lot of speculation and rumor of weight savings but no numbers yet. Last I checked it could be that the eco4 is 200lbs lighter than a loaded 2013 GT. The new GT may comein under, at or over the current cars weight. I really have a hard time seeing -200lbs on the GT with the addition of larger wheels/tires and IRS. I'd say the mandates are whats causing weight to go up over the years. Crash test ratings, IRS, STABILITRAC, Airbags etc all add weight and they are mandated. Imagine how light these cars could be with all the weight saving tech they have now AND not having all this other stuff. Lastly, I'd bet the reason we're seeing an eco4 has a lot to do with cafe standards.

To answer the OP, they are typically light, the straight axle and tire combinations put the power down better, in the case of the auto car they have great gearing for 1/4 mile runs. That being said either car can be modded to be fast and fun. They are both great cars.

I agree completely. To add to this: There is no distinction between the motor in the mustang be it auto or manual. In the SS the L99 is already at a slight HP disadvantage. The LS3 not so much, just a weight difference but an auto is still much better for drag racing.

I'm going to put it like this. GM have old school players or followers that still believe bigger is better. From a 5.7-6.0-6.2 whats next 6.4?? What Dodge beat us to that. Dam.. GM needs to look inside the box and build forged internals, that probable cost the same. Ford has many partners and help each other out, Microsoft, Saleen, Shelby many more top notch players. GM only has SLP?? They need to hire some new cats that have new ideas that can perform better than a GT-R. AWD it the way to go. hands down..

Gm will never be able to mass produce anything that can beat a GTR.

the LS1 dominated fords in the 90's and it was easy to rag on ford. Many people jumped on the LS bandwagon for this but now that ford has made something equal to or above the LS and now I see threads like this.

It wouldve been interesting if Dodge had put the exact crate 6.4 in the new cars and not modified it like they did. I think those out between 525-550 hp

This is not true. If anything 1LEs run slower 1/4 times than straight SS LS3s. But yes the 1LEs rigid chassis and better suspension, brakes, and tires will be faster on a road course with equal drivers than any 5.0 GT. Bosses are much closer and here it would be a drivers race.

If you want a ford, buy one. Don't bother justifying to me why you did. My opinion won't change regardless. You're either a tool or not, regardless whether you buy a Mustang, Camaro or Challenger/Charger.

Currently there are less than 50 new ZR1'S for sale in the USA. There are over 400 new GTR's on the U.S. market. I stand by my statement.
