why i hate some dealers

was thinking about getting rid of my 2011 Camaro 2ss loaded with moonroof inferno orange int ,high polished wheels rs pkg orange stripe pkg with only 5100 miles on it and I found a very nice Cadillac xts for a real nice price at a caddy dealer in ohio with a very good price for there vehicle but they were obviously going to make it up on my Camaro. they offered me $21000 and I laughed at them and the salesman tried to tell me a car like mine is going for $25000 now on autotrader and I told him I was already offered $26500 locally he preceded to tell me that that's what the dealer was showing me for it with the two cars combined until I told him I know the difference between acv and what a dealer is showing me and again he triesd to tell me that a car like mine was going for $21000 on autotrader. if anyone would like to know the name of the dealer was germain Cadillac in Columbus ohio what do you guys nd girls think of this?

Yes, dealers actually make more money on used cars than new ones.

I went to look at the new 2014s over a 2 week period. Got a build sheet and price and was offered 23k for mine. I also had to fill out autotrader value online for a value which I thought was strange. The salesman told me it was out of his control because the used car dept values trade in and for me to go to Carmax, have them buy outright(wtf dealer practice is this ). My car is not a daily driver and is low miles garage kept in mint condition. Drove to another dealer so on and finally highest offered $27,200. That price was trade in deal today. I would have to leave it there and wait 4-5 weeks for my new car to arrive. I said screw that and left. I think Ill wait for 2017 and enjoy what I have and a few mods for now.

You and me both brother. What these dealers seem to forget, is we LOVE our cars. So having to pass on a shitty deal and keep a car we LOVE isn't difficult at all.

The 2010-2013 Camaro's are models I can see wanting for the rest of my life.

Have you looked outside lately? The camaros are not selling for high prices around this time of year. Dealers don't want them on their lots right now as most ppl won't buy them because they will just sit. Germain is one of the biggest dealers in the country I'm pretty sure

"Selling new cars is just a license to steal used cars" because the
real money is in used cars.
This old adage has more truth in it than you may want to believe.

how long would you like to sit on a $21,000 investment before it pays off?

would i take it for my car? depends what kind of situation i was in. If you were offered $26,500 and didnt take it at this time of year I think you are way off in what you think your car is worth. Dealers are in it to make money and they could possibly sell your car for around $25 in this part of the country at this time of year, so 22-23 would be reasonable i think.

I usually sell my cars privately but am never in a hurry to sell. If I go to ever sell my camaro I know it will be when its nice out as prices are a lot better

No surprise here. The dealer is out to make money. Used cars is where they make that money. They are a lot like a casino. The house always wins.

I was offered $19,000 on a 2010 2SS from Carmax. I walked and decided to keep the car at that price. The dealer is out to make money though. That building, tools, and all the people running around doesn't magically pay for itself. I know some dealers around here that have to clear $400k a month to break even. They aren't going to reach those numbers by overpaying for your car. It sucks, but the winter market in Ohio isn't the best for sports cars. Wait till it's nicer outside and I'm sure you'll get a better offer.

Thing to remember: Not all dealers are alike.

My dealership (a Ken Garff dealership) will use the auto trader tool as a starting point for trade in values. It is a good way to peel some customers off of the ceiling that is their desired trade number. To the dealer, it's just a car. To you, it's your baby. You are emotionally involved in the trade number. The dealer can't afford to be. Winter is a terrible time for ANY dealership to be sitting on a rear wheel drive 400+ hp sports car.

If you hate your dealer, you are shopping at the wrong dealer! The ARE good honest stores. Read the Google reviews about the dealers in your area. Customer feedback is a great gauge of how good a store is to work with.
