The Z/28 will get the new motor coming out in the C8, IMO.

Who's to say your not right? Could they use a new DOHC style engine in the "top dog" 6th gen to use as a segway for customers to get used to the dohc that will be standard in gen 7?

That engine would make the most sense to me, but then IMO the Z/28 would not be top dog. I think that would still be held by the ZLE but that's just me

I get that feeling, but I'm just using the 5th gen Z/28 as reference of "top dog" etc.

I see where you are coming from.

IMO the Z/28 doesn't need to be the top of the food chain, bc until the 5th gen car it never was.

Last Z/28 was not the most HP car on the books, 505 LS7 to ZL1 580, with that said a 600+ HP NA motor with the right weight and set up can beat the times of the top dog at this time.

I agree, Im very much ok with it not being considered "top dog", it just seemed that with the 5th gen, it got put there.
2SSRS@Gen5diy: I understand the ZL1 made more power with the LSA. I'm sure due to pricing, available options and lap times, the Z/28 got placed as the "top dog". Not saying I was the one to put it there, but by general consensus.... and as you said, you dont need to have the most hp of the model series to be considered the best (or do you?)

It had the most exotic materials, the highest price tag, and put down the best lap times, it was also the most limited production number 5th gen car. Those factors lead it to being the top of the food chain. Specifically the fact it put down the best track times.

A 600+ motor might do the trick, but Corvette tried to go down that route and couldn't hit their power goal of 600+ while passing emissions so I don't see a 600+ NA car coming anytime soon. That is why we have an LT4 powered Z06. I personally think that mid 500s would probably be the most they could do NA and still pass emissions.

I have said it before, and maybe it's me being a pessimist or maybe I just hold the ZLE that high. I don't see a Camaro variant with less power outdoing what the ZLE has done. And if it was done, that would mean lots lof light weight materials which means expensive which I don't see a business case for other than look what we did.

If I remember right, Corvette also wanted AFM in the engine, so it was a combination of AFM not letting them rev high enough to make their goals, and not meeting mileage goals without AFM.

So here's a thought. The current gov't administration wants to roll back/eliminate EPA/Emissions regulations. So, since the R&D was already done for the NA engine on a Corvette, they could bring it back in the fold for an out going Camaro. I'm sure its not that easy to just "uncover the crate from mothballs" and start up like the RD never ended, but....

Possible, without getting in to to much political talk I don't know if they would risk it, because said administration could be gone by 2020

I understand that. But if it were to come out for a 1 or 2 year run and then be done...... where a gen 7 would then take over.
