WOT with engine broken in, but original oil still inside

Hey guys, so I just broke in my motor at the 500 mark, and I made an oil change appointment for a few days ahead, will flooring the car with the original oil do anything "bad" even though the engine is broken in?

No. You’re good as long as you’re not hammering it constantly every time you drive it. Have fun!

You'll be all right, and in fact I agree with Need4Camaro, you should not be afraid of a proper break-in, see the attached page.

Don't run anything like the Texas Mile (or the unofficial "NJ Turnpike Mile", heh) before the oil change, though.

(Of course everyone has a different opinion on what the break-in procedure should be, but let's not turn this into another one of those catch can/oil weight etc. threads. I put my money where my mouth is, did the break-in below, and my engine was observed in great condition before the forged internals went in, so it appears to have worked.)

And here I am still working on breaking the engine in to 1500 miles w/o going past 4kRPM. It's ok though, I'm almost there. 1300 miles, did the first oil change at 1k.

The break-in is only up to 500 miles. The rest of the 1000 miles you shouldn't track the car or beat the living shit out of it. You're good to floor it, just don't go out racing a bunch of people.

The reason for not going WOT after 500 miles is that the rear end gears are not broken in yet.

The engine break in posted above in the thread is for a crate engine, not for the one that's delivered in a new car. That engine has already been run in and had the oil replaced after that. There is no recommended 500 mile oil change for new cars. On new cars, you can safely go with the oil life indicator.

Having said that, I changed my oil after about 1,500 miles and 80,000 miles later, the engine uses a barely perceptible amount of oil between changes.

The performance supplement actually tells you to do an oil change at 500 miles and again at 1500 miles in prep for tracking the car.

Eh, I went WOT right out of the dealership. Which was after I went WOT on the test drive.
Break it in like you are going to drive it.

HPE dyno'd mine with 350 miles and original oil. You're good.

The engine will be fine with the original oil. No worries!

Not saying it will cause damage, but going by my manual I don't see anything about staying under 4kRPM only to 500 miles. It clearly says until 1500 miles, unless I'm missing something.

Page 199

"Follow these recommended guidelines
during the first 2 414 km (1,500 mi) of
driving this vehicle. Parts have a break-in
period and performance will be better in
the long run.
. Avoid full throttle starts and abrupt
stops.
. Do not exceed 4000 engine rpm.
. Avoid driving at any one constant
speed, fast or slow.
. Do not drive above
129 km/h (80 mph).
. Avoid downshifting to brake or slow
the vehicle when the engine speed
will exceed 4000 rpm.
. Do not let the engine labor. Never lug
the engine in high gear at low speeds.
With a manual transmission, shift to
the next lower gear. This rule applies
at all times, not just during the
break-in period.
("

Exactly. At mile 500 I was going down the quarter mile for the first of several runs that day. Changed the oil, trans fluid, and diff oil at 1K miles and everything was perfect. Let it rip!
