USB stick requirements

Are there any size and file system requirements for a USB stick to work with the MyLink system? I just bought a 128GB USB3.0 SanDisk drive, copied about 25 GB of music on it, but the car doesn't see it, I can't see any folders if I try to browse.

Does NTFS work on this thing or does it have to be a FAT32 file system? Are there any size limitations? 128 GB is a bit large, but it should still work.

Still not working in the car but it works perfectly on the PC. The stick came FAT32 from the factory and I copied all my music into a folder called Music. There are some other files that came with USB stick, but it shouldn't change things much.
THIS is the USB stick.

What am I doing wrong ?

Should be able to see the USB. Have you tried another USB stick to test to see if it reads it?

Yeah, nothing shows up under media. I tried in both USB slots.
I don't have another usb stick to try, but I tried a microSD card in an USB adapter )sort of like a memory stick) and that one didn't work either. Until now I had assumed it didn't work because the microSD with an adapter is not really a true USB stick.

The USB ports on the car seem to work. Both charge and both could connect my phone with Android Auto.

The USB compatibility seems to be a little bit "hit or miss". I formatted two different 64GB USB drives identically and then loaded them both with the same music but only one of them works in my Camaro. If you search through the other threads you will find some that discuss compatibility issues and how other people solved problems.

Try reformatting it to FAT32 again with Windows. Then try it. Could be how the factory formatted the stick.

Has anyone figured out if there is a limitation to size? I had a radio that I bought recently that had a 32 GB restriction. Newer radios might have restrictions as well. Just a thought.

I've formatted a couple of Sandisk 16gb drives to FAT32 and they play consistently.

However, I noticed that only a small portion of the tunes play when in shuffle mode. There are repeated plays of the same small selection of tunes.

Yep shuffle is useless for some reason. What I do is shuffle the folder or save a playlist to the stick that is shuffled already.

Never thought of that!

How do you save a shuffled file? Are you using iTunes to create the playlist?

I use Windows Media Player, but bet iTunes will do similar. Essentially just add all your songs to a playlist in WMP, then there is an option to "shuffle the list" (instead of turning shuffle on for playback). Then save the playlist (m3u) to the Playlist folder on the stick.

Windows can only format FAT32 up to 64gb, after that you have to use a 3rd party software to format to FAT32.
