ZL1 Luxury tax!

Registering the car in Jersey the DMV is now asking that we pay an additional $261.68 in luxury tax? Who else was forced to pay that amount?

In indiana we have an property...excise(BS fee) tax. My plates are about $500 for 2015. I am guessing the 2017 would be at least $600

Man, I'm glad we don't have that crap in Ohio. I have a vanity plate which costs me around $130 per year to renew. If I didn't have the vanity plate, yearly renewal would be about $50.

True, but the property taxes on houses are a killer.

So the question becomes if DMV is withholding my registration and title until it's paid what recourse is there? If you didn't have to pay why should I? Is this fair?

Just GUESSING... I'm thinking that there is a $$$ amount where they charge the tax.. The ZL1 is probably higher than that amount. Real EASY; just ask them when it kicks in...If you want to beat the tax, just payoff the DMV clerk $200................. Just kidding

I'll take that over the "property tax" I had to pay in SC to get my plates...roughly $1200.

You do. It is the sales tax you guys pay on food and clothing that many other states don't levy. They get their juice one way or another.
