Midwest Daily Driver

Anybody else drive year round in the midwest (or anywhere with winter climate)? What winter set up do you all have? Weigh down the trunk? Looking to buy 2020 LT V6, but was curious to thoughts on using it as a daily.

I drive my 2018 LT V6 year round here in Michigan. The dealer threw in a set of of 18" wheels with Blizzaks in the deal. No weight in the trunk or anything like that. With a dedicated snow tire you'll be more than fine

Awesome, thanks for the quick response! You have 20" tires on in the summer or those 18s too?

Yep the 20's for about 8 or 9 months then the 18's for 3 or 4 months. It's all in the tires. A Camaro with good snow tires will do better than an all wheel drive vehicle with performance tires

The snow nanny makes driving it drive pretty well even with the 20" OEM run flats. Even with a M6. It really throttles the power.

No problem

I've been through a couple winters now with Michelin x ice on 18 inch rims. They saved my butt on a very frozen highway one morning. Snow mode, traction and stability control keep the back end in check, but turn those off for some cul de sac drifting!

I drive year round including Wisconsin winters. I picked up a second set of OEM rims and put stock sized Sottozero snows on. 245 front, 285 rear. The car looks stock that way.

GM puts Sottozeros on their test cars. This will be my fourth gen6 Camaro winter. I daily drove a 2004 GTO for 11 years before that.

This picture compares a stock rear tire to the Sottozero

I'm here in Michigan and drive all year round. Starting towards the middle or end of October, I'll put on my Bridgestone Blizzaks (special performance model) and my Summer Tires will be put into a "Tire Valet" service by Belle Tire. In March, I switch and put the Summer Tires back on.

The Tire Valet service is great because it allows you to easily manage multiple sets of tires if you don't want to have to deal with storing them yourself.

But I drive all year round as we haven't had significantly horrible Winters here in Michigan over the last couple of years. But I just use common judgment though, where if the snow is "too high" I try to avoid driving until the Trucks have plowed.

I got 18in Michelin x-ice 3 , I did 2 winters and got 2 - 35 lbs cat litter containers 1 over each wheel. I put on snow/ice mode when it snows no problems yet. I just watch the weather about 7-10 days before I see it’s gonna snow I get them put on.
March maybe a bit soon to take them off you can still get a snowstorm you just gotta watch the weather , it’s a judgement call. Late March early April

Honestly the run flats are done about Nov 1st and you can feel them loose traction. Worse yet, is when it is cooler and your in a lot of rain your sliding all over the place.

My winter tires go on next weekend. I actually don't drive in the snow as I will take my truck but the run flats loose tons of grip when it is cold and are a total nightmare in cold rain.
