Winter tires

Its been a while since I bought snow tires for a rear wheel drive car and my question is the gentlemen at tire rack told me that I would have no problems with the 20 inch Blizzak snow tire. I can only afford to buy 2 tires right now do anybody else using 20 inch Blizzak and if so how did they do?

You should never mix tires. Especially winter and summer. It can create extremely unpredictable and dangerous handling situations.

Unless you get some crazy harsh winters, Blizzaks on your 20" wheels will work just fine. But like mentioned above you shouldn't mix and match. Just buck up and buy a complete set. I bought 4 Blizzaks off Craigslist for $250 with about 3000 miles on them

I appreciate the comments, my Camaro came with all season 245/40/20 run flats. As the gentleman at tire rack told me in are conversation the all seasons on the front should cause no conflict with the winter tires on the bback. I just wanted know if anyone has use this size winter tire and how did it perform.

Probably won't find anyone who did this. Most (if not all) people who get winter tires will get 18" or 19" mounted on some cheap wheels.

I have 1 full set of winter tires/rims for both my truck and my wife's Regal GS. If you have a 1LT, you should be able to get 18" steel rims that will fit no problem. It's not good for the tire or rim to be switching from winter to summer tires every 6 months. Plus, by the time you pay (2 or 3 times) to do this, you could have just bought a cheap set of rims. Tirerack sells 18" steel rims that should fit. The tires come mounted and balanced, then you just put them on.

Check your local area craigslist and this site too, you might be able to score a winter tire/wheel combo cheap.

I used to live in Warren, OH (hour south of Cleveland and Pittsburgh) and I kept my all seasons on for 2 winters, no issues.

I would not recommend Blizzaks. They're too expensive and wear horribly. I noticed no difference in winter driving between Blizzaks and Firestone Winterforce. The only difference is the Blizzaks cost twice as much and last half the mileage of the Winterforces.

Sno tires from 5th gen will fit your car unless you have bigger brakes. Check local market place, craigslist - lots of options. You should be able to score set w wheels used, enough for season or three for 5-800. Check age of tires - you dont want anything older then 5-7yrs esp if signs of cracking / dry rot is present. Of course if wheels are cheap enough, may be good place to put your dedicated snows.. smaller wheel diameter = cheaper - lots of 18" choices from 5th gen.. and many BMW, they are same 5x120 bolt pattern.

Same here. Really good performance with these, but I kinda wish I'd gotten them narrower. Mine are 245 all the way around, which is what Tire Rack recommended. I used to have a Mustang GT with 215 snows and they seemed to bite down a little better. With this setup, I still feel like a super hero in the winter, though.

Cracks me up in winter when I'm at a light next to somebody with front wheel drive and all season tires. They just spin while I take off!
