Hey guys,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I hope it gets this info out to anybody that tries to buy this 2018 zl1 1le. So I went through carmax to buy a zl1 1le, after tons if searching I found the one I wanted. I paid carmax to ship the car to sante fe, Nm since that's the closet dealer to me. Showed up this morning, the whole right side of the car was repainted terribly, orange peel, dents still in fenders, and door. Front sitter was painted with textured bumper paint. I ask the sales person if it was in a wreck, she stated nothing was on the vin. So when I asked for the paint thickness tester, she replied that the right side had some work done. The reader was reading 15 on the rear quarter panel, 11 on the door, fender, and most of the car. The car has all over damage. I told them that I did not want the car. The car is now relisted in sante fe. Let people know vin is on the site. It has been to 5 other carmax locations as well, so others are seeing the problems. Heres the link.

Hopefully you got your money back for the transfer fee. I noticed the color issue on the right side almost immediately.

You're joking - right? Or did you not notice that this is a ZL1 1LE. All 1LE optioned cars come with a black wrap on the hood.


OP- I'm sorry to hear this didn't work out but glad to hear you caught the issue up front. As mentioned I hope you get the transfer fee refunded.

Curious - did the salesperson state that the car had some work done immediately after you asked for paint thickness testing, or only after the testing was done?

Also, now that the dealership knows there's been an accident will they change the listing description and price?

Wondering about how much deceit there has been already, and how much there wil be going forward by the dealership.

In the side profile picture it does look like there are a bunch of paint defects all over the right side of the car, but I can't tell if its stuff on the camera lens, or the car. If the accident isn't on the VIN that means it wasn't insured and the accident not reported.
I think you were correct not to take the car. But I wonder what the real story is here.

Actually it just means that it wasn't turned in to a car reporting service. There is no requirement for accidents to be reported to CarFax or any other service. I hit a deer with my truck years ago. It was reported to the insurance company and they paid to fix it (the deer didn't have insurance). It never showed up on a CarFax check a few years later.

Funny because Carmax is a dealer that preaches that your getting a perfect no accident car when buying from them. They wouldnt even take my 06 Charger Daytona in trade 7 years ago because it had slight hail damage that was fixed perfectly with PDR.

From what I can see it looks like it was just washed and not dried.
