I’ve used Escort radar detectors since 1998. I had the 7500 from ‘98-08, the 9500ix since 2008 in my old Accord, and I just bought a new Max360 for the Camaro since it is less sensitive to radar from blind spot sensors and distance sensing cruise control.

I will say this: as much as people may be afraid that radar detectors are outdated and useless due to laser, the vast majority of municipalities still use radar because laser is still incredibly expensive. They may have one laser gun for the entire city and use it only on a highway patrol. So radar detectors are still incredibly useful. They’ve really worked to reduce false readings and filter out the automatic doors at the grocery store on new models.

I suppose the best combination of monitoring is a good detector and using an app like Waze, but I will always swear by a good detector.

I’ve had just one ticket in 26 years of driving, and my foot has a lot of lead in it.

escort 360c, waze, JBV1, highway radar apps, still have to watch for lasers, nothing works except jammers.

I find them to be extremely effective paired with waze. off course, they are not perfect.

Around here all LEO use Ka band so I can turn X and K band off, every time the detector goes off it's a cop. It's very rare to see laser and they tend to always use it in the same places. Where I drive, 99.9% of the time they use Ka band radar and leave it on all the time, god bless them for that.

I have a redline detector, it works well. For me, I just want to know the signal level so I can respond appropriately, the redline gives me a lot of warning and a steady ramp-up of signal before I'm clocked, even in canyons. I very rarely get tickets but I don't drive at a speed I'd get pulled over routinely either.

The canceled track and autox events suck, gotta remember not to go too fast on the road this summer, detector or no...

I found radar detectors gave me a false sense of security as every ticket i ever had was when i had a one. Quit using them and got smarter about when and where to have my fun.... and voila!.. no more tickets! In congested areas never more than 10 over or flow .. whichever is greater.

I rarely use one anymore. Maybe on long trips.

Now days you can't leave them visible or you'll be dealing with a smash and grab.

I take mine down immediately before arriving at my destination.

I remember driving through a small town in upstate New York, 2 lane road, when suddenly my RD went off. Immediately I slowed, the two cars ahead of me did not - they were maybe going 40 downhill around a mild curve in a 30 zone. Patrol car coming the other direction turned around ahead of me and pulled over both of them. Quite a racket this town had. No way Waze would have helped.

I used an old school Passport 8500 with new school Waze on long trips

Now that my oldest drives, I just use Waze for "navigation" just to set a good example LOL

I have a uniden dfr7 which cost 159 on Amazon and it works great. I only have it detect ka band and laser. I driven numerous times from NY to Florida and it saved me quite a few times. They rarely use laser. I get no false alarms and like Dave C in a previous post wrote, turn off x & k band and you'll only be alerted when it's a cop running radar.

I bought the DFR9 for $230, and the one thing it has over the DFR7 is GPS, which allows me to still run K band and lock out known stationary bogus sources.

Surprisingly, Uniden did release one more update for it at the end of last year that improves K band false positive (blind spot monitoring signals) suppression a lot, I hardly get any of those now.

I use one all the time. I have the Escort 360 in my Camaro and the Uniden R7 in my DD Daytona Charger. My wife uses the Uniden R3.

Which of these do you like the best? I'm still running an older escort and get false positives on K band like crazy. I usually shut off K band on the highway, but local area the cops still use K band.
