BMW guy as a first time SS 1LE owner here!

Hello guys!

Long story short, my last daily was my beloved OG M2. I was shopping used F80 M3's , M4's, Corvette Grand Sports, SS 1LE , GT350's . I have been a BMW guy the last 5 years, but in past years I dabbled in different brands, such as Honda, Mitsubishi, Dodge to name a few, but I am really just a car guy, track rat, and autoX'er who appreciates any purist machine, so I am not a total fanboy of any brand. Well I went and checked out what seemed to be the only SS 1LE in a Chevy dealer that I could find in the San Diego area.

I am the proud owner of a Summit White 2020 SS 1LE. Man this thing is a hell of a package for what I paid. I preferred the 2018 fascia to the 2019 and really like what they did to the 2020 fascia, I am in love. Here she is! 322 miles on it today!

Edit: Different pic uploaded without the spring spacers making it look all high up front.

For good measure here is the old M2, and my E36 M3 track car that is still being tracked almost every month. Man I cannot wait to track the SS 1LE.

Nice move.

If you can get away from the Image/brand issue, from a driver's car perspective and a pure performance perspective, the SS 1LE is much better.

I came from a 16' M3 w/ Ohlin coil-overs

Thank you so much! I don't usually like white that much but she is stunning! Her name is Storm. I gotta admit, the masterpiece of a 6.2L V8 engine mated with that gearbox with short precise throws feels better then any modern BMW I've driven and I've driven many of the modern M's on street, track, Autobahn, ect. The M2 was so much damn fun, so playful and balanced, a little rocket, of course the cabin had better materials, the car is beautiful and such a delight. But in comparison the SS 1LE is more hardcore, all the track/performance data is nice, and I LOVE having Android Auto. Along with all that the 1LE package includes quite honestly it is more performance for less money.

I'm not having much of a problem with the visibility, used to it already. Just a considerable difference at first with the size difference from my small M's, but once I drive it, the car encloses around me and it feels great.

Yeah fully agreed man! I know the image you're talking about and I have no issue or care for the supposed image. When shopping around , this car was recommended to me even by my Porsche/BMW track friends. If someone is stuck on "image" and judges me, then I don't care cause they probably don't know a driver's car when they see one LOL. I've been lurking the past week before signing up. Nice to see a mix of dedicated car people with experience from different brands on this board.

Congratulations on your 1LE!

Summit White was the first color I looked at when shopping the 1LE’s, due to my 15’ 1LE being that color.

Summit White, in my opinion looks much better on a 2020 1LE than the 2019.

I ended up finding a ‘Satin Steel Gray Metallic’ that was stashed away in the back, that had just arrived off the delivery truck, and it was love at first sight.

The 1LE is certainly a drivers car, and by the sound of it, it looks like you’ll have it at the track in no time!

Enjoy it!

Congradulations! Something I noticed from your first picture, it looks as if the dealer may have forgotten to remove urethane spring spacers from the front springs. Looks like the front tire to fender gap is quite large. A quick peek at the spring, right above the front tire, will tell you if the spacers are there or not.

This what the spacers look like if the dealer forgot to remove them in the PDI. If they are still there, you just have to jack the car up to take the pressure off the coils and they should release pretty easily, but be sure to keep them somewhere you can find them in case you decide to trailer your car to the track or need it towed:

You know what, I'm pretty sure I did see that when I peeked in there at the dealer, but didn't know what it was as I have never seen that done . At work now but I can jack the front a bit and get them out soon as I get outta here. I did think that gap was rather unsightly. Thanks guys!

Update :yep they're in there alright.

Congrats on the new purchase.
Great choice. Enjoy it.
I used to be an Audi guy for 15 years and switched to the 1LE about 2 years ago. Totally different animal and so much more enjoyable to drive spirited. For daily, I still drive around in a VW group, 1.8 TSI (turbo) platform, but this is a sporty hatch commuter and serves as a grocery getter and means of kids' transportation

Thanks a lot! That gray looks real slick! Love it! Yes it is definitely a real driver's car. I enjoy every moment I drive it, first order of business is some clearbra in the front at least.

Congrats! You'll be surprised what Storm can do on a track: guaranteed
Read up the manual on proper break in process and fluid changes before you track her.
Also take a peek at my sticky post on PTM modes demystified to learn about TC and stability control settings et al. Just read the very first post of this thread as it has all the info incl comments from GM engineer responsible for those systems.
Also, in case you havent discovered it yet: the car comes with excellent rev match for down shifts and no (throttle) lifts for upshits. Both come super handy while on track.
Lastly, do an alignment sooner vs later as a factory one often is all over the place even if only at its street setting.
For track, go to a *good* shop that knows how to work with stock bolts to dial in about 2.6F and 1.6R.
Cheers!
