Sub Boxes/Subs
Im the brand new proud owner of a 2023 Camaro 1SS, and like any new teen sports car owner one of many things I would like to do is add subs. I haven't seen a lot on them for this gen. I was wondering where people who have done it where getting their boxes the plan is to put it in the trunk. Also with that what subs are yall using i had JLs in my truck but they blew after ~10 months got them warrantied then blew them 2 months later so idk if it was on JL or the place that installed them. Thats also why i ask here instead of just going to my local sound shop because I did exactly what they told me and after the second time they started back tracking like well you shoulda done this or that but thats not what they told me at the start. Not super concerned on price but I also don't want to spend more then a few hundred if i can get away with that.

I believe there are a number of discussions about this. Try searching.

Ive seen some and maybe its for lack of looking hard enough but I've not seen much of anyone who specifically mentioned where they got their box most have just said they gotnit custom made. I was able to find a website that sells them seems to be harder to find them for 6th gen than previous gens but idk its quality or if i should do front or rear firing

Try the audio subforum. Look for someone with a 1SS system you like. Try a PM if you can't find vendors listed in the posts. There are lots of flavors of these audio upgrades.

A few hundred isn't precise enough to have a conversation on what to use. $300? $600? Is that the price installed or just equipment? Install will certainly be "a few hundred" with a prefab box. Are you thinking about a prefab sub box or a custom box - custom is obviously more expensive but you save trunk space when done properly. You can buy a cheap amp (under $200) and cheap subs (under $100 ea.), but they won't last if you push them. If you run them within their limits, they can last a decade. You can buy used and save a ton of money, but there are always risks. I have no issue with used gear, and I own a ton of it, but maybe 5% were worse than expected. Vented boxes help boost output but then you must set the subsonic filter correctly or you'll destroy the subs. Vented boxes also take up more space. It's a decision you need to make when you make gear selections. Install costs needs to include getting a signal from the factory amplifier, from the front speaker outputs. The amplifier should have high-level, balanced inputs to accept this signal directly. Otherwise, you'll need an interface, like an Audio Control LC2i, to adapt the factory output into a low level signal (you also gain an auto turn-on). If you visit car audio specific forums, they can offer generic advice, but they will tell you to come here for vehicle-specific advice. We have an audio sub-section on this forum where this post should be moved. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=228

LOL.
As an IASCA SQ judge, I can say that I don't believe I qualify as an audiophile given the cars I've judged and the cars I know. I'm a "budget build" in that world. I run nice stuff, sure, but I usually get a smoking deal on them used. For example, the ML3000 sub had a retail of $1,200 but I paid $400. The MLK-165 components had a retail of $1,250 but I paid $350, then another $200 for the ML70 mid. When I ran an Audison LRx5.1k it sold for $1,500 but I paid $900. As a beta tester for JL Audio, I got a few amps at a great deal. I also bought a VX600/6i used for $250 despite the $1,500 retail (that price did not include the connectors which cost me another few hundred and it's looks beat up). The build log for my previous daily driver (now my daughter's) is here: https://www.caraudio.com/threads/201..._alive.570687/ And I have a dozen other build logs on the audio forums, dating back to the early 2000's. Older build logs are in albums with 35mm photos. I still do wiring and audio installs, mostly in old muscle cars these days. The current project is a collection of 1985 Alpine gear going into a 1967 Firebird restomod. I haven't done much for SPL builds in the past 5 years... but I do have a Fi 18" BTL in a box that needs a home... would be a good fit if the rear seat was removed... :P I'll do a full build in my SS but my installs require gutting the interior and doing extensive acoustical treatments prior to running wiring and fabricating mounts. I'm getting close to doing the gutting, but still busy with side projects. I'll pull everything inside (except for the dash), then drive around with just front seats and center console for a bit as I work on the treatments.

I also do research before I attempt an install. These are the files I've collected so far. Mostly from ACDelcoTDS access. Schematics, pinout diagrams, disassembly and assembly instructions, etc.

I will eventually install a sealed box off of ebay like this one for one or 2 10" subs:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/38315877090...Bk9SR9Km-oW8Yg Ill get a small class D monoblock to power it. I will try to tap off the factory head unit for the signal as well.

Sorry about posting here vs somewhere else I've never used forums in general before let alone this one. My concern on price was the box itself i understand everything adds up. My box for my truck was $600 was hoping to not do that again was hoping for under $500. I plan on if i can using the amp i had in my truck (though i don't know that i should considering the problems i have had with that setup). Will probably go with either 1 12 or 2 10s with sundown subs. Havent decided what ones because i dont know what the box will be like to know if i need shallow or not.

I like the Sundown SA series as a high-value option, but as you know, selection drives enclosure requirements. Are you thinking it will just rear-fire from behind the seat or do you want a form-fitting corner mount (driver's corner)? I understand not wanting to spend this much on a stealhbox: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-XeTVuZ...tealthbox.html What amp did you use in the truck?
