It is good to see a discussion on engine lubricants and it being sensible and not a flame war.
I became an AMSOIL dealer in 2000. It is in everything I own and has served me well. I have sent in some UOA's that I thought the oil would have been toast and they came back fine and then some that were not. It does make a difference in application and driving style. Everyone is different and each brand of lubricant will show different results in each case. We had a 2008 Acadia with the 3.6. No matter what brand oil I used, it was shot at 5k miles. Each UOA came back with the same result. Now we have a 2011 Acadia and this engine is a little better on the oil but I still can't go past 5k. It isn't as hard on the oil but the high fuel dilution is one of the major factors on the oil taking a hit. What is interesting is the 2011 is direct injected and the 08 was not, but they both had high fuel dilutions. I have noticed that the transmission temp runs cooler since I switched it over to AMSOIL's Torgue Drive fluid. It use to run at 180 and now runs about two needle thickness below that. |

50? can i have your setup? you dry sump too? i really liked the amsoil z rod... 1.5 thousand miles and a hundred or two on a road course and it came out looking nice and clean with no metal on my magnets.
with that said i just put dominator in my car cuz i didnt want to wait till monday for z rod haha. dominator has less zinc but higher shear rating than z rod

Car will see the road course eventually so may go with an accusump to help a bit. Lots of guys run the accusump with success.

Red dye....interesting. I havent added the dominator yet but have a case in my garage. I have been using JoeGibbs HR3 15w50 but figured i'd give amsoil a try since a shop in town sells it to me at cost. $120 a case.
How often do you change these boutique oils. I have been changing at 3000 miles. Haven't tracked it yet since im still finalizing everything. Camber plates, 12kg coils ZL1 rear sway from Pedders this next friday. Then CTS-v brakes conversion with ZL1 rotors(later Racing Brake rotors) from JDP

I think everyone is getting off topic from the ops question, mobil 1 would not be good for racing, I agree with that. But the op has a v6 camaro, it is a daily driver, there is no reason for her to waste money on the amsoil.

Agree, standard Valvoline would work well at 5k drain intervals. Since it is a V6 anything past that I would do a UOA. There is also AMSOIL's OE, it runs $4.49 a Qt if you buy it by the case and are a Preferred Customer. |

better oil with better wear properties and additives means longer lasting everything. except cats.
how is that not relative for someone who wants to keep her car a good while?
