Timer activates before I launch?

I'm in competition mode and mash the brakes hard and then hit the throttle. It will level off around 2000rpm but my timer for my 0-60 starts as soon I I hit the gas.. So by the time my rpm levels off I already have a few seconds into it?? Do you guys know what I'm doing wrong? If I ease into the gas or aply it rapidly, the timer starts.
Thanks

That's how it seems to work... Same problem here. I don't put much faith in it, it's more of s gimmick than anything since it doesn't work worth a crap.

Do NOT hit select until JUST before you're ready to let the break go. Here is a guy doing it along with tips on how to get the fastest times. I've tried all the various ways of doing it and this guy has it down!
