OnStar removed on 2022's?
So, with GM getting rid of OnStar in 2022, are 2022 Camaros coming with the OnStar button still, or has it been removed? Anyone able to confirm either way?

Man, if this is true, it is almost worth the current outrageous mark ups, key word: almost.

Looked up, and OnStar as a whole isn't going anywhere. It's the Hands-Free Calling feature that's going to be killed off. Makes sense, since Bluetooth + smartphone make this feature all but obsolete.
https://gmauthority.com/blog/2020/06...unset-in-2022/ I personally do like the peace of mind offered by the automatic crash response that I subscribe to it. YMMV, but I am still not sure why you'd be concerned about OnStar. If you have a smartphone, it's already listening and tracking you anyway. And from a cost standpoint, it really doesn't make sense for GM to constantly track and pull the information from the millions of vehicles they sell.

Where are you seeing that they're getting rid of Onstar? Closest I can find w/ a quick search is an article from 2020 that says they would be getting rid of the Onstar Phone Calling feature/option in 2022.

Apologies. I must have misunderstood the article. I assumed it was referring to the service provided by pressing the button in the car. My assumption was this service is redundant now with cell phones and such.

The auto crash response could be a literal lifesaver in some situations(a bad enough crash that renders you unconscious, for example), though I think some dashcams can also do that. Either way, the GPS location needs to be pulled for this feature to shine.

Per an E-Mail from OnStar (I have a 13 Camaro and a 15 Malibu).....
As cellular carriers transition throughout 2022 to 4G or 5G, your vehicle’s OnStar connectivity may be impacted. Don't worry — an over-the-air update is on its way to keep the OnStar safety and security services in your vehicle running smoothly. In some vehicles, you will be asked to accept this update on your vehicle’s touchscreen. This update will allow you to retain the high-quality OnStar service you are used to. I was perfectly happy with my Onstar on my 2011 truck. This is the problem with technology. It may be the latest greatest today but don't get used to it because we'll make it obsolete before you know it. There was nothing wrong with old fashioned record players either. Or sewing machines with a treadle. Or two tin cans with fishing line for that matter.

I’ve never paid for onstar, don’t see the point, but enough people must pay since it’s still around. I’d prefer homelink to the Onstar buttons…

FWIW There are still a lot of remote areas in SOCal that have bad cell-phone coverage.
Several people I know buy some On-Star phone minutes per month just in case they need them out in the desert. They claim On-Star works better than any cell phone company. |

Yeah that was part of the sell, a 3watt cell phone that could work where your regular cell phone couldn’t. Apparently not enough buyers willing to pay for the minutes or the hardware.
