Nitto 555G2 or 555RII
Does anyone have any experience with these tires ?
These will be for a sunny day weekend car, and get maybe 3k miles a year. No track or drag strip, only the occasional street romp. |

I put the Nitto 555G2's on my 2001 Trans Am and they ride and handle pretty darn good. I am very happy with them.

I had the G2's on my last 6th gen and I had no complaints. They were on the car when I bought it and they did the job. That being said, tires are an area I typically don't skimp on, and my choice is the Continental Extreme Contact. Just an all around better tire. If ya go with G2's though, they'll serve you well.

G2s fine for the street for stockish power, R2 is for drag/track

The G2's haven't been my favorite tire so far. I think the Pilot Sport All Season 4's are the best I've had on the street, aside from the factory stickies. The Pilot set was very predictable where they would lose traction. It took a lot of effort to get them to give up grip. The G2's have been far less forgiving. They do pretty well straight-line, but the corners I just can't count on them in an aggressive corner. They do follow through once traction is broken, they pedal well. And rain, the G2's fall short again. The AS4's handle very well in the rain. Not that we try to get crazy in the rain, but when you need to avoid someone else, you can count on them to keep you planted and minimize hydroplaning. I've had a couple white knuckle moments with the G2's in the rain, when hitting pockets of standing water on the road. Again, not driving aggressively, just trying to get it home before the weather gets worse.
If I only drove my car in the summer, on nice days, the G2's are nice tires. I don't take my 1LE out on snow days, but on days in the winter where it's nice out and dry, or sometimes been caught in an rain shower that wasn't in the forecast, I'm just not impressed with them. The Pilot Sport AS4 is the nicer tire overall, and I'd dare say I think they would still match the G2's in straight-line performance, but definitely cornering. |

I did not care for the G2's for the rear. I thought my all seasons were better, both the DWS-06 and the BFGOODRICH G-FORCE COMP-2 A/S PLUS.

Thanks guys, I'm going to look at a couple different brands before pulling the trigger. As I said I don't need them for the track or drag strip, or rain or snow...warm sunny days only. I'm also shallow enough that a big part of my decision is based on a tires looks. lol

The BFG Comp2 A/S does indeed have a brutish sidewall

I ran them on my 2017 SRT Challenger, ran 315's in the rear, traction wasn't the best with them, but they were a decent tire

A few weeks ago I got the Indy 500s in the SS staggered sizes. I feel that they're more than adequate for spirited driving on the street. Coming from 245 rears they're "harder" to break traction on but not at all impossible.
Another "plus" is that I get a non-zero amount of compliments about the tire thread pattern on the Indy 500. |

I'm a big nitto fan, put them on all my camaros. Just put on the 555r2 a few weeks ago and I'm very pleased with the grip. Doesn't spin the tires as much when gassing it from a stop.
