Gold to Black Illuminated Bow Tie

My car has the dealer installed gold illuminated bow tie but I would like to swap it to black. I really dont care if it glows or not. Is it possible to swap out the colored bow tie or will I need to replace the entire assembly?

You can simply wrap the gold section with black wrap. Or paint it.

If not, you can sell me yours and there is a guy on here that is selling the black one for cheap!

The illuminated emblem is a single assembly that clips into the grille, its connector is in the middle behind the center bowtie piece that does not separate from the light strip.

I'd wrap it, pretty cheap and easy to do, and if you cut the vinyl right (or get a pre-cut variant), the look will be perfect.

Did you contemplate not using the gloss? I wonder if that would match a wrapped hood.

Thanks everyone! I’m going to consider painting right now but will look up the black one for sale first.

Probably could not use the gloss if you wanted. Its not super glossy. The glossifier is more of a clear coat than a gloss coat.

Kirk, how is the Duplicolor product holding up? I’m heading out later today to do some material shopping.

Perfectly. No defects.

I did mine yesterday. A few observations....
The front emblem dried much too quickly due to heat from the engine. Next time I would do it while the engine is cold.

Plastidip is more like a dark grey than black. Ok because it matches hood wrap.

Two tone emblems are a little tricky. May just go all black next time.

This stuff is thin—I probably went with 15-20 coats.

Yes, gloss does not change appearance much.

If possible and if careful an exacto knife can help when removing tape.

I guess I must be doing something wrong. I used the adhesion promoter - 3 light coats with 30 minute between moving forward, on the 4th coat of Duplicolor plastic wrap but the coats just keep sliding off. I warmed them in hot water and shook the can each coat. It says you can add a coat every 10 min I’m not sure thats right at this point. Any suggestions?

What do you it keeps sliding off? Is it the Duplicolor can that is same as plastidip?
