Anyone with LT5 Cam on an LT1 Engine

Hi,

I'm looking to go back to stock cam in my car as I'm not really liking the drivability on low RPMs of my BTR 225 Cam.

Currently looking to install the LT5 Cam (instead of my Stock LT1 Cam) to utilize the aftermarket lifter, pushrods, springs already in the car.

So, anyone with experience with the LT5 Cam? Will it drive and sound completely like the factory Cam? Anyone have any experience with this LT5 Cam? It's priced well.

Appreciate the help and clarifications.

well thats what i put in my car lt1 2ss. Drives like stock. Theres some controversy on whether its specks are the lt4 or the same as the ss. Im thinking its the same specks as the lt4.

Ask btr they said same as lt4. and also btr makes a stock lt1 cam that is the same as the lt1 just no dod.

Either way both cams drive like stock completely just I would think u need boost with the lt4 specafcations I am boosted so.

Thanks man. Any power gains from the LT5 cam? Any regrets?

Kerry is correct that originally the LT5 cam specs were confused with the L86. It's actually similar specs to the LT4 minus the DOD/AFM lobes. I would not run that cam in your NA application.

I would go with the BTR stock profile DOD delete cam. It uses the larger LT1/L86 specs.

They also offer one with a 32% fuel lobe for those who plan on going forced induction and need to overdrive the high side pump for more fuel headroom.

Question. Im boosted with a procharger. thinking it might make a little better power with the lt1 speck cam and add lift on the exhaust to be at least as much as the intake.

What ya think King?

Why do you say i shouldnt go with the LT5 cam in my NA application? Because it doesn't yield any performance numbers? Actually i found it for a great price and way cheaper than the BTR. Also im not really looking to increase power or go boosted. I like it to be exactly similar to stock cam power levels but without DOD/AFM.

Appreciate your clarification.

Because you are going to hurt power NA going with a 193 intake lobe that the LT4/5 cam has vs the 200 that the LT1/86 cam has.

The first link I posted is the correct cam for what you want to do. Getting a part at A great price isn't always the great way to go.

I would do the btr dod delete cam I linked or step down to the v220.

Thanks man. First time knowing that LT5 is smaller than LT1 in the intake duration. however, the exhaust side it's bigger it seems (223 vs 207) not sure if this will make a difference though.

My car has Full Boltons (Headers, CAI, Intake Manifold), how much less horsepower at the wheels are we expecting from installing the LT5 Cam compared to the LT1/BTR LT1 style in in Full Bolton applications? is it huge difference or just some minor 5-10 whp?

I'd swap the stock valve springs back in also if going back to a stock spec cam. Seat and open pressures with the BTR springs are way higher than you'll need with a stock cam. No reason to beat up on the lifters, rockers, seats, etc when you don't have to

Coming out of warranty, I'm looking to install a k-tech oil pump and ideally more reliable lifters.

Is the LT1 Camaro cam the same as a truck cam?

From the product description:
Quote:
...Many times, no dyno tuning is required as the valve events have not been altered drastically from OEM levels...
If this applies to our cars and we can swap with no other mods or tuning, it would be very appealing.

I am also looking to go with the BTR 220 this spring. My tuner said its a well mannered camshaft for daily driving.

Honestly i don't want to risk it no more with other aftermarket cams as i dont trust their “stock” drivability claims no more. Thats why im trying to stick with stock cam and enjoy the stock drivability.
