Diff fluid part number change?

After reading through the not so sticky diff fluid change thread I went to my dealer and asked for ac delco 10-4034. They brought out two quarts of 10-4016 SAE 75W-90 GL-5 and told me this was the updated part number.
Can anybody confirm if this is the right stuff because I’m not feeling to confident the parts lady was right.

Thanks!

I wouldn't trust that, the 10-4034 has a limited slip friction modifiers, don't see a mention of that in this P/N.

Yeah, after a bit more research, don't use that, you should get 10-4034. I'm coming up on the track hours for my second diff flush and will be using 2 bottles of 10-4034 again.

Alright, thanks @snekk, I’m wondering if this is the fluid for the NON 1LE SS.

Nope, the owner's manual calls for GM 88862624 / AC Delco 10-4034 for my standard 2SS as well.

I bought some for my SS last summer and it came in a different shape bottle. I don’t remember the part number. Go back to the dealership, ask them if you can return it/exchange for the correct part number. The best way to get correct things like fluids for your car are to give them the VIN number. GM changes part numbers so much. Their computers should be able to match the correct fluid for your specific car.

The diff fluid part number has not changed. The parts folks gave you the wrong stuff.

I just did my diff last weekend and got the fluid over the counter from my local dealer.

That is the correct bottle 10-4016 you also need 10-4003 additive 4oz. Called two dealerships in two different states , both said this .Dont know if that is a new change ?

next oil change im swapping to Redline 75w90 gl5 with friction modifiers. theres no way a $22.86 bottle of Acdelco is going to be better than a polyolester oil base stock of Redline at only $18.95!!

I was just about to ask... I've always used amsoil stuff and was thinking it HAS to be better as well. If I'm wrong whatever, I don't know shit about friction modifiers

It turns out that GM did change the fluid spec. The first picture below is from the 2016 Owners Manual. The second picture is from the 2018 Owners Manual. I don't know if they are interchangeable. I would check your Owners Manual for the recommended fluid for your year. If you don't have one then you can download the manual from Chevy's web site.

Years ago a friend had the differential on his 2012 ZL1 fail due to a problem with the coating GM used inside the differential. There was a TSB documenting the problem and replacement. He still had to produce receipts to prove that he performed recommended maintenance with an approved fluid before GM would authorize the dealer to replace the differential under warranty. Redline and AMSoil may very well be better than the AC Delco fluid but you might want to make sure they meets the fluid requirements before you use one of them.

long as its in there i think you'll be fine. a huge company like Redline isnt going to say its for your car and its not for your car. and again youre starting off much better of an oil. Redline and Motul are best base stocks unless Amsoil no longer uses a di-ester.
