In socal, you can probably get away with emptying it at every oil change. People who live in colder areas need to empty more often in the winter, because they collect a lot more condensation.

It's an aftermarket upgrade. There are a few different brands (elite, rx, mike Norris, etc.) it's highly recommended that you toss one on. Very easy install.

The massive amounts of stuff that are ending up in these catch can is kind of scary.
I understand that manufacturers are trying to keep costs down, but if that much stuff is ending up in the can that can be harmful, wouldn't you expect problems on these motors to happen quite frequently? And well before it is time for the engine to go?

Manufactures are not worried about the little oil injestion that will occur on a normally driven car. Why add a $100. plus item to the engine, that cuts into the profit. Do the math over 100K cars and it adds up quickly. Then you have the maintance issue. Not every person buying a car today wants to deal with or knows how to deal with it. These items are mostly for us fanatics that are looking to get every HP, and preserve our engine the best we can over its lifetime.

I collect approx. 1 oz, of junk oil from my system for every 1000 mile driven. So when Ido an oil change I have approx. 4 - 5 oz. No big deal to empty at every oil change to me.

Others are collecting more if driven in colder weather as they have allot more condensation going on, which is water vapor collecting and filling the can faster.

If you have a DI engine, and plan to do mods, keep it running at its peak all the time, then do some more reading on the threads provided and go buy one.

I for one am glad I have one.

Isn't it crazy how much oil our Catch Cans will Catch. Hate to think of that flowing back into your intake
