Take the ZL1 1LE wheels, tires, brakes, suspension and aero, slap it on an SS and call it the 2LE.

The SS 1LE can do 1.1g and the ZL1 1LE does 1.15ish g's, the brakes are VERY similar. The real differences are in the solid rear cradle bushing, DSSV shocks that are also hard mounted, and aero, from a handling perspective.

A set of Cup 2's will do that to any car. I would like to see the SS 1LE and GT PP2 raced on the same day, same driver, same fuel, same rubber. Only then will the result be irrefutable.

Here is MT's testing of the PP2. It came in 0.65 secs behind the 1LE and 0.3 seconds behind in the figure 8.
"Although our Best Driver's Car competition is by no means a numbers game, the 2018 Mustang GT Perf Pack 2 really needed to smack down its archnemesis, the Camaro SS 1LE that finished fourth here in 2016. The Mustang, unfortunately, missed that bogey, subjectively and objectively. First the objective: A lap-time gap of 0.65 second at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is a lifetime. It even trails the Chevy by 0.3 second on our tiny figure-eight course. Time lost between the corners as a result of the Mustang's 35-lb-ft torque deficit is easily forgiven for its fabulous soundtrack." Link: https://www.motortrend.com/news/ford...car-contender/ |

Credit to Ford for finally one upping the SS 1LE with a GT PP2. I'm still certain head to head the SS 1LE will come out a winner, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. The one question I have, if the PP2 is not really a track car, what exactly is it's purpose? |

The Camaro SS1LE easily beats the Mustang GT PP2 at Laguna Seca, even that the 1LE rides street tires VS the Mustang PP2 that has cheating tires. Also Randy Pobst and the MT team mentioned that the 1LE is a better balanced sport car compared to the Mustang PP2 erratical behavior which also overheats its rear differential. At Laguna Seca it was the other way around 1:38.42 VS 1:37.78 in favor of the Camaro. Even at Willow Springs the SS1LE matches the Shelby GT350R lap times at 1:28.29, again the 1LE in street tires VS the Shelby in track cup tires. This shows that the Camaro chasis is superior to the Mustang's and even would give a strong track battle fight to his older brother the Corvette.

Funny how many in here wanted to see the PP2 in this Lightning Lap with the hopeful anticipation of a poor showing. Well that didn't happen it solidly beat the 1LEs time. Your just going to have to deal with it the same way you have to deal with the A10 GT is faster than the SS in 0-60, 1/4, and top end.

even same day, same driver the results can vary substantially based on what time of the day the runs were made, hence the reason Mero and the Chevy team were asking to run the ZR1 in the morning at VIR.
The 1LE and PP2 are likely so close in terms of power, braking and handling that they will trade wins at different tracks or even at same tracks if run in different conditions. |
