I would much rather have the aero and down force and handling than top speed. People are so narrow minded and tunnel visioned.

Not really a "Yikes" for me...I didn't expect any more. Plus, it sounds like a manual car, and the "regular" manual ZL1 also topped out at 176 in 5th gear. I'm not sure if he went to 6th for this or not which is usable in the ZLE for acceleration. Either way, there are very few road courses (read: basically none) where a street car would be doing 175+ MPH. For normal 1.5 mile, 2 mile, 3 mile etc. road courses, the ZLE/ZL1 will hold its own against the worlds finest street cars.

The A10 will hit 198'ish, (ZL1 non-Aero)...nobody has reported what a ZLE with the A10 will do yet, I'm sure its somewhere in between the 198 and 176 range though...

I would have thought considerably more. But... really there is a lot more rolling resistance to overcome with the aero and the wider tires. After all the fronts are the same size as the rears on a regular ZL1 but I’m a little disappointed.

Bill Wise hit 173 on the Ring after shifting to 6th gear at 168 mph.

I dont know, it was a pull on my local road late at night, showing the friend the car I passed 175 and at that point just paid more attention to the road than the speed. Completely flat road as well and no tailwind.

I rather have a car that is stable at high speeds ! I hear the ZLE is more stable on the top end, plus if you want to top end it, just remove the tail and carnards.

Sounds about right. So many factors play into this. Aero and gearing have a lot to do with it.

Interesting, I hit 180 on a local road running with bikes, and I wasn't really going for top speed - just trying to keep up with the bikes. After 160 the Aero can be felt in your soul.

Adding aero like this will cause downforce which in turn will cause the car to "weigh" more so it'll handle better and be more firm to the road.
I do not see why people would think it would go faster in a straight line. The regular ZL1 has a higher top speed because it's more streamlined. Nothing new and same goes with every other car out there that has 2 variants like the ZL1 does. If you want to go faster (at stock HP levels) then you need to take off your mirrors, add a flat bottom to the entire underside and duct tape your entire front end and you might pick up 5 mph or so. But then you'll also blow up your engine since it's not getting any air to the radiators...... |
