That must be only in certain states? $1700 is a decent chunk of change. Dang...

Nope, it's a universal (EPA mandated) tax.

As 10mm said above, skip shift and AFM/DFM was developed in part to keep this in check, but even with that, gas guzzler tax on the A10 ZL1 is $2100, so this $1700 is a bargain

It originated in 1978 during the Carter administration.

As someone that just bought one, 1: F .gov, & 2 IDGAF. They know damn well it has jack shit to do with anything, as I’d pay more taxes based on how much fuel I buy, it’s about people buying something like this can afford it & DGAF about $2k.

Cause here’s the deal, I put maybe 3,500 miles on in a year. That uses X amount of gallons. Yet someone else that has an SS or LT1 may put on 3x’s that mileage at only 15-20% less fuel consumption. So what’s the end value, in my case, vs others? Absolutely jack shit. That’s because it means jack shit other than just another tax with a lame ass excuse.

The funny thing... the Challenger A8 = no GGT, the TR6060 = GGT go figure.

Like Camaro, manual 392 Challengers don't have cylinder deactivation(Dodge's version is called MDS). The skip shift probably just wasn't enough to prevent the 392 Challenger from getting the gas guzzler tax.

And the thing is, C7 Corvette with manual trans still has cylinder deactivation, it just only activates in Eco mode(instead of auto trans having cylinder deactivation in every mode, theoretically). Camaro doesn't have an Eco mode so the functionality ends up unused. I personally like C7 manual's idea. It could help you on longer highway trips, but if you hate it, you can just never use it by never going into Eco mode.

And yet, I get better MPG than the A8 crowd. Smoke and mirrors.

Well, there are issues with both standardized tests and real-life anecdotal data. The former doesn't consider some real-life situations that could affect fuel mileage greatly, the best example being most turbocharged engines' Eco/Boost effect. Step on the gas and your gas mileage will drop like a rock with all that extra fuel that needs to be injected to keep engine knock in check. When I visited the track, one of the guys driving a stock M2 CS was burning through half a tank per 20-minute session. My Camaro burnt through a quarter tank each session. Even with the tank size difference, the M2 CS uses at least the same amount of gas as my Camaro, even though his car is lighter than mine and makes about the same amount of power.

The latter, on the other hand, has too many variables for the data to be convincing or scientifically meaningful. Traffic, driving style, etc. can all differ from car to car.

I generally use the EPA numbers because it is technically more scientific, but as I mentioned, I am aware of their limitations.

My favorite part of having to pay the GG tax is that it is incorporated into the price of the car. Meaning you also get taxed on it when you pay sales tax. A tax on a tax. What a country!

It’s actually triple taxed in Mass. twice as you noted, then add excise tax.

The part that really kills me is that the Z’s MPG is better than or equal to my old 2012 Mustang GT (highway). Mixed driving ended up about the same (for me), as you have to wring the stang out to get it moving, as opposed to the Z.

Wait, that is not funny

The GGT on my Challenger was $1000 + tax is $1030.

No cool!

The Hellcat has $2,100 worth of it... welcome to the times!

Though, I believe the ZL1 is also typically $2,100..?

I think that it is funny that with an 8k premium they still have the testicular fortitude to charge a $250 doc fee. That takes some balls.

M6 guzzler is $1700, A10 $2100 (no AFM on the ZL1)
