Yes I'm saying his dyno numbers are very similar to a stock LT1.

Good catch on the 115 mph. I missed that as well. My guess is that it was in 4th gear, but at 115 it's roughly 5-10 mph shy of the stock 7 grand shift point. And being that stock power peaks at 6800 on the V6 I'm thinking he has a few more hp left in it

Seems from the research I've been doing. The core of a 8L45 vs the 90, is more or less the same. Could I look at finding a clutch pack for the 90 and upgrading my internals? A 8L90 is like 5k. I'm not sure if I could source one from a boneyard that is in good condition. Also. Have a cold start video. Well, as "cold" as a start can be in Hawaii. Not being an expert I can't tell how much of this is overcaution vs reality, but unless you can tune the TCM or have an experienced tuner to help you out, it's kinda risky. If you only change clutch packs and absolutely nothing else, this might not apply, but I'd think line pressures etc. will still have to be calibrated and stock values may not work well...

Thank you for the reply. If I just wanted an upgraded clutch pack so it will grab gears properly, where could I source a clutch pack? Further, I would have a shop install it, and they'd send out my ECU to unlock TCM tuning, which, just that alone will be $400. |

I'm saying, I would want to get the trans upgraded first, and then do the tuning once it's in, so it runs correctly. When they're talking about sending the core in, does that mean I'd be shipping the transmission? I live in Hawaii, shipping the transmission is not an option I have, it'd be obscenely expensive, not to mention, I'd be out a car for an inordinate amount of time, depending on the turnaround. I'll be honest, I'm not a transmission expert. Maybe I'm being dumb when I say I'm looking for a solution where I purchase the parts to be put into the transmission, get it tuned, configured and ready so it works properly with my drivetrain. I'm not looking to cut corners, but I'm also not looking for a full racing build. I'm not even putting down 400WHP/WTRQ(yet). What kinds of options do I have so I don't grenade my engine or trans from slipping to 7500RPM on a 1st to 2nd shift due to it not grabbing the gear. |
