Protecting black rims. What would you do?
Hoping to take advantage of the winter storage downtime and get some advice/tips on my black rims.
They're like a semi-gloss, and my goal is to keep this same look, but permanently improve the durability and reduce the maintenance. I just don't have the time and patience anymore to keep up with the dust. Especially, on the inside. Ideally, I'd like to be able to put something on to be able to simply rinse off the brake dust. What process/products would you recommend? |

New powerstop brake pads...don't bother looking for a cleaning protecting product, none will stop the dust production.

Ceramic wheel coating kits will protect the paint on your wheels from minor road pebbles and other debris and also make it easier to clean off brake dust.
If you don't feel like spending that much money you can try to use a polymer sealant (same kind as you'd use on your paint) to coat the wheels (I've used rejex) it won't protect from chipping but will help with sealing the paint and make it easier to clean off brake dust. |

Thanks Glen, gd. Yeah, I know I'll never stop the brake dust. I already bought a Wolfgang ceramic coating kit a couple months ago I've yet to use on the body paint. I just wasn't sure if it was the best solution for the rims, too.
Will ceramic coatings perform well on powder coated rims, too? |

I have the exact same wheels, and just did the ceramic coating on them Saturday.

I know this is an old thread, but I found these pads for my 6 piston Brembos: Power Stop Z26-1405 Z26 Extreme Performance Carbon-Ceramic Brake Pad

These brakes are what I have, never needed to clear brake dust once a silicon product went on, the hose gets it clean. See the link in my signature.
An even easier way is just wash with carpro hydrofoam, a wash product with silicon in it. Works fantastic. See the thread I put up Friday on hydrofoam. |

The only proper way to care for those is to NEVER TOUCH THEM. Just swap out the pads for the ceramics, and always use some sort of spray on wheel cleaner and then rinse and blow dry. Lethal camaro has a few videos where he shows how clean gloss black wheels can be if you never touch them. Otherwise if its paint or powder coat, they will scratch. Especially when wiping off the sintered metal particles from them.
