Out of the box SS barely takes it. BUT, since the Z is turbocharged, I bet a tune will really wake it up and put it ahead of an SS.

Then an SS Tune will retake it.

And you can still turbocharge the SS…

The fact that the base Z has an open differential is just astonishing. At least they offer LSD on the higher trims. Doubt you will see a Z with LSD under $45K, making an LT1 or 1SS a bargain. They might be a tad quicker with a tune, but any FI LT1 should walk even a tuned Z. They will need turbo and fuel upgrades to put a hurting on FI LT1s, and that requires deep pockets.

Comparing non-stock is pointless. Because then it's just an arms race that comes down to who has deeper pockets.

I don't like the looks of it. Doesn't have nice lines like the Camaro.

Not really. With our cars being limited on fuel because of the high compression your run of the mill 560hp blower car might not cut it. They've also got the slight weight advantage and more importantly a far superior aftermarket compared to ours. Companies are chomping at the bit for these to do some r&d. There is about to be a whole slew of 4-6 bangers putting pressure on our cars. Mercedes even has a 4 cylinder coming that's got 402hp with a electronic assisted turbo.

I'd say they're trying to bring back some design cues from the past generations. It's not horrible, but I agree the Camaro just looks more muscular by comparison.

It will be kind of sad that we aren't going to get to see Nissan try and come out with something to top the Supra I6 and Supra try and counter. With the switch to electric performance, car manufacturers would be kind of crazy to keep trying to push the ICE envelope.

No, that's not how it works. Turbo engines have a unique ability to significantly increase their power by increasing the boost and gas that's forced into the cylinders, as long as the turbo and injectors can support this. Simply mods like opening up the downpipe with a tune can make a huge difference. There's usually a good margin on these stock for various conditions and to keep the engine cool and a tune can bring out a significant amount of power, as in 10-25% more than stock, well over what you can get by doing a "tune" or race-gas in an NA engine. You generally have to go to pretty extreme lengths to do the same in a NA engine without FI, such as full exhaust headers+cams and tune, and even then sometimes it's not anywhere near the difference.

why not just be happy theres one more new sports car in the world?styling is subjective, and if it gives an SS a good run for the money its gotta be a good performer.i think we all know that time and r&d money are getting short for ICE cars.nissan has at least invested in the next gen Z car...general motors will probably be phasing out the camaro in a couple of years unless it goes electric.

My new LT1 blower kit was $4,900 during the black friday holiday sale, currently piecing together the LT4 fuel system from ZL1 owners upgrading. Using an ethanol blend, I expect to be in the 650+ rwhp. My LT1 also weighs 3590, so the Z barely has a weight advantage (less than 100 lbs). These new Z's will not be making 600+ rwhp without turbo and fuel system upgrades. The infinity Q60, which shares the exact same drivetrain as the new Z, struggles to make 450 rwhp on a hot tune. Those 560 rwhp supercharged LT1 you speak of are all running 93 octane, low boost and no timing on a stock LT1 fuel system and that is why they perform the way the do.

Not a fan at all. That, the Supra... they all just look the same. Blah... The Camaro is a much better looking car.
