SS Non 1LE pad and Ti shim experience?
Hi guys,
Was wondering if any SS non-1LE brake folks have any experiences to share from switching to non-factory pads (hawk DTCXX or other)? On the 4p Brembos. I ask since I'm not sure that the same experiences on the 1LE hardware is applicable to the non-1LE hardware? Also, anyone use the KNS Ti shims that they offer for the 4p brembos? Any fitment issues, or over heating with the stock pads? fyi, I have installed both the larger deflectors and the smaller rotor shields, and currently have motul 600 in her. Also using the 1LE wheel/tires GY SC3, and lowered. Not a daily driver, and don't mind switching pads for track days, if need be. Thanks in advance. Keep it on the black stuff. |

The OEM pads have worked for me thus far, but need to replace them now. Just wondering about options and others experiences. |

I was asking also about the KNS Ti shims. But in looking at the pics of my stock 4p pads, it appears there may already be a shim on them?

The shims on the stock brake pads(and most aftermarket brake pads) are there for NVH, not for temp issues. So if you are worrying about boiling your stock fluid with the new pads, get the Ti shims.

Hey, OP. You have done all the initial stuff I would suggest when asking about pads and shims.
I would switch to a different pad before using the shims. The Ti shims work. They will keep you from brake fade due to fluid failure, but make sure the fade you are feeling is fluid and not pad. The shims aren't magic. The heat generated by the brakes is still there, but it's reflected back to the pad/rotor instead of into the pistons/fluid. I found when I added shims, I started having pad fade which necessitated a move to a more racing oriented pad. When I made the changes one at a time (and used a heat gun between sessions), I saw that perhaps all I needed to change was fluid. So I moved from Motul600 to SRF. Fade problem went away and I didn't need to use the shim. YMMV PS - it was mentioned above, but the metal plate on the back of the OEM pad is a backing plate, not a shim. It's to reduce rattle/noise.

Thanks guys, good info. In looking at the stock pads again, I see your point. It’s not for heat. I’ll switch from the motul 600 to Srf as well.
Thanks again |
