Starter Issues HELP!!! - Page 3

I just came across this thread and I have the same issue . It doesn’t happen all the time maybe once or twice a week . When it is trying to crank like this I just hit the start/stop button again to turn it off and then try again and it usually fires up normally . I had the battery replaced last year thinking it could be the battery but that’s obviously isn’t the case.

The guy in the Video is wrong that is a Battery or a Bad Ground problem. I would look for a bad body ground,

I was gonna say the same thing, if they replaced the battery or starter and it keeps doing the same thing then there may be a bad chassis ground somewhere.

I just had the same issue. I stalled the car in a drive through, i tried start the car 3-4 times (just weak turns won't start) then a puff of smoke came out of the hood and the starter won't start at all. Any fix to this? I drive the car pretty hard at the track, its get hard to start time to time ..

Does anyone have a diagram showing the chassis grounds. You could always clean those connections and re-install with so dielectric paste. You would be surprised how chassis grounds can cause problems.

If you have a tap set you could drill and tap the connections, that would ensure the best possible connections.

Not normal. For me they had to change out the fuel pump. So far so good, that was the issue, mine used to take a good time to start up also.
I have an 18, so it shouldn't have been like that.

I just had to have my starter replaced only 28k miles on it. Car was dead in my driveway, had to have it towed to the dealer.

The fat ground cable that goes from the Jump stud to right behind the alternator often has a loose connection. or a bad cable, this caused slow starting and a few other electrical issues on my car. mine was eventually replaced entirely.

note that a slow start is different from a long start:
A slow start is when it sounds like the engine is struggling to turn over, this can be caused by many things. Weak battery, bad starter, poor power connection to the starter...

A long start is when the engine cranks a full speed but doesn't catch right away, this is usually from the cam driven high pressure DI fuel pump building pressure. this is normal behavior.

Starters suffering from heat soaking has been a problem for decades it’s not something new or just the Camaro. The problem is in slow traffic the heat from the exhaust is affecting the resistance in the starter motor materials and it doesn’t want to crank with the amps it has
Simply replacing a starter doesn’t garuntee a fix. Wrapping the exhaust and it building some heat barrier is the true fix

Had the same issue, GM said my battery was bad gave me a new battery it seemed better. But on hot days and driving hard, I live in AZ so everyday is hot. It seemed to work for a while. Then it started again. I replaced my battery myself but the problem still persists. The problem has to be the started getting cooked. I'm at 48,000 miles now. I called my dealer they said they would take a look since I have a record of complaining about it, but no promises. I'll problem have to make an extended warranty claim, but they time I'm going to wrap the headers and the started with heat shielding. It's the starter it's not the battery.

I contacted the guy in the video that was uploaded. He said Chevy replaced the starter and the fuel pump and the problem never came back.

I just had another battery die from this. Now i'm out of warranty and wondering what to do. I may just get rid of the car. It's embarrassing for my battery to keep dying on such a nice car.

does anyone have a conclusive fix for this?

Should I:
Wrap my exhaust to limit heat seen by the starter?
Press the start button without clutch in to prime the fuel more?
bite the bullet and pay to replace starter and battery?
always have a jump box on me?!

fyi my dealer didn't change the starter when I was under warranty because the starter doesn't fail. It just heat soaks and draws excess current from the battery. Which kills the battery. That's why i don't think a new starter or battery will solve this. Maybe a new car.
