Thanks for clarifying, Mr. Wyndham... I couldn't find anything mentioning AFM of the ZL1, with the exception of this Top Speed review...

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-new...5423.html#main

They describe the ZL1 as having AFM, which seemed odd given that their test car was a manual, which we know manual cars don't have AFM based on feedback from several members who have M6 cars. Now we know... with this knowledge, I would be surprised if the A10 doesn't have GG tax

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Mine will be used for both spirited driving, and long road trips (when I don't need the boat)

I have enjoyed the fuel economy that my '16 SS gives

I know.....that's not the point with the ZL1

I could've sworn I remembered reading or hearing someone or some magazine say it had AFM. Seems like there was even a discussion about whether the same cylinders were always shut off or if it alternated. Oh well. Doesn't change my decision to buy in the least.

There's a lot of misinformation and assumptions made by the magazines. A few sources are still citing the car as having 640hp....You have to remember to read things with a grain of salt...especially if they're not familiar with the tech, product line, or company.

The LT4 was fitted with AFM equipment in Corvette form...so naturally, if the engine is being advertised as used in the Camaro, the assumers out there would predict it will also feature AFM. Not bad logic...but now we know for certain that they system isn't utilized on the ZL1.

Personally, I could take it or leave it...I'd like the extra 1-2mpg on the highway for trips, perhaps a lower GG tax bracket...but this way means less complexity, drone, etc stuff that the A8 SS guys have to consider when playing around.

Hmmm...good to know I stand corrected LOL. That is awesome to hear there is no AFM! Another thing to piss off the Vette guys...

So GM must have their information (like their service info) blanketed because in there they talk left and right about the LT4 in the Camaro service manual about AFM. Must be for the sake of it having the hardware?

So I know that I am bringing up an older threat, but it is confirmed that the ZL1 does NOT have AFM? I am asking because I am looking at a cam package, and most designed around the LT1 will want you to add lifters (due to AFM). I am thinking if the ZL1 does not have AFM then there is not reason to add lifters into a cam package?

I am undecided on doing the heads even though I understand that the exhaust side may be somewhat lacking, but being a numbers person I am not sold on the cost/benefit ratio on doing heads as opposed to just a cam package.

I am going to do Roto-Fab, throttle body, either e85 or meth (maybe both), cam, lower pulley (15% or 18%), 2" headers and long system to stock muffler, and maybe a ported snout. If I do ported snout then I will look at an upper pulley. If I can hit somewhere around 700whp without meth/e85 I would be ecstatic, but do not know if this is possible on the stock blower....

So is there any reason to spec new lifters if the factory lifters are non-AFM and good to begin with? I am going to get a baseline dyno tomorrow morning to see what I am starting with, then the mods will begin!!

The post I responded to was deleted ... whatever.

Oh well, one can only hope now that the folks in that oil burn thread finding it hard to believe there's no AFM in the ZL1 read this thread.

If the ZL1 doesn't have AFM enabled but does have ALL the hardware for it (like a Z06 LT4, but with cylinder deactivation switched off through software only), won't the lifters still be necessary for this cam package?

The main reason people swap them is they aren’t as durable. I wouldn’t do a cam swap and leave them in there if it’s not a VVT cam replacement.

Well I am bringing this back up since its not really clear in some of the specification pages if the AFM lifters are installed but not activated as on the Manual Trans LT-1's.

There is no info page on the instruments showing 4 vs 8 cylinders.
