ACDelco Rotors Rough Finish?
This is my first post, so please be gentle.
I was at the track recently with my '18 SS 1LE and I did a dumb. I track the car pretty regularly and I knew my front brake pads were getting thin, but I wanted to get every bit of life out them that I could. Because, you know, $$$. During my third session of the day, I ended up burning through the remaining pad material and ruining my rotors... So, instead of being frugal, I cost myself even more money by needing new rotors. I still run the factory Brembo rotors and pads as I have found them to be pretty effective. When the ACDelco-branded OEM replacements arrived, I was surprised to see that the rotor faces are not smooth. They have a slightly coarse, dull matte grey appearance. I expected a "silvery" smooth finish. ACDelco 177-1193 ACDelco 177-1194 Do the ACDelco rotors ship unfinished? Do they need to be turned or surfaced before installation? I tried searching for the information but couldn't find anything. Maybe the answer is just obvious to everyone else? |

Correct. The coating will be rubbed off by the pad.

Yes - this is the new anti-rust coating. First drive will remove the coating.
No need to use brake cleaner either, I believe, but I give it a quick spritz anyway to get my greasy fingerprints off. |

Thank you. I just wanted to be sure before I bolted it together and ruined some brand new stuff.
Happy motoring! |

Be sure to bed in / burnish the new pads and rotors. The procedure is in the owners manual
