You have to pay shipping though. A month ago when I looked it was prohibitive, but now it's only $11 Fedex ground to my house for 12qts. That puts the total at $90, which is $8 cheaper than Amazon (even with their free shipping). So that's a good deal.

PS - They also have the PF63 filter for $2.85.

Unfortunately, ESP is not included in the rebates. That's annoying.

This is a great deal!
I ended up paying about $1 a quart more.
Purchased made a week before this was posted.
It will be nice when this oil is available at local parts stores in the future.
Oil and filter is changed and the ZL1 is now out of winter storage!

My dealer installed part number 12706595 for the filter, that comes up as PF64 (not PF63) on rockauto. same thing basically?

Yeah, the PF64 is the "correct" part for our cars. The PF63 is the truck filter. It's a bit longer but fits just fine and gives a bit more filtering capacity. I think when I typed that I didn't see the 64 on RA's website, but it's there now for $3.28.

Stopped by the local Wmart and no PF64's in stock, so I picked up a PF63 to give it a try next oil change.

The extra length of the PF63 still doesn't extend past the bottom of the oil pan, so no ground clearance issues.

For those of us in Canada, Canadian Tire has the Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 4.73 liter (5 US quart) jugs on sale this week for $35.99 CAD, I bought 3. After the shock of the dealer cost of $26.95 a liter, I'll be doing my own from now on, a $300 oil change is outrageous! Sale ends tomorrow night (8 July, 2021). I could have sworn there was also the 0W-40 ESP but can't find it online.

Mobil 1™ Emission System Protection 5W30 Synthetic Motor Oil, 4.73-L Canadian Tire

This is what I find interesting about the M1 and other brands with advertise Emissions System Protection (not clogging the cats). What that boils down to is that the oil has to be thin enough not to collect on the catalytic converter, and resist enough temperature so that it doesn't burn onto the honeycomb structures.

I track my car ~4 to 5 times per year, and I'm thinking about doing a bit of mixology. I could use 6QT of Dexos M1 0W-40 like GM wants, but adding 4QT of M1 15W-50, which has a shit-ton of Zink in it's additive package, and is specifically formulated for engine durability in racing applications. That would mix to be be essentially a 6W-44 with higher concentration of Zink for hard use. Or even go half and half, and get
7.5W-45

What do you guys think?

I think Dexos 2 (and M1 ESP) only has a little to do with cat health, and much more to do with reducing low-temp sludge and deposits on intake valves, combustion chambers, and turbos. It isn't thinner - the viscosity grading system remains consistent with non-Dexos oils. Oil doesn't "collect on the catalytic converter." The cats get really hot really fast and will burn anything that gets on them. Typically what ruins a cat is overly rich fuel mixtures, where the unburned fuel reacts in the cat and overheats it.

OTOH, zinc will hurt the cats. If you want to run 15w50 for just track events, that's okay, but GM warns you not to run it for daily use.
