Negotiating the price is easy, financing on the other hand... That's where people break, if you understand how a dealership operates and detach your emotions from the purchase, then you have the upper hand, they are the ones who NEED to sell the vehicle, you can live another day without it.

Here's what I did:
  • Reiterated that I was only there because of the 0%
  • Thanked the dealer for the offer
  • Showed interest in the vehicle but willingness to drop the deal
  • Most importantly, DON'T EAT THEIR CRAP

They first said I didn't qualify for 0% and showed me a paper with the payments @ 5.59%, I said no can't do, can't give more money (I could, but I was low-balling myself), seller said "if you give $1k more we can give $3k", easy enough, went to finance, absolutely refused all the packages and protection warranties and what not, JUST THE CAR, then came signing, still wasn't happy with 5.59%, played their game, made ugly faces, multiple calls, always on the phone, calculating numbers, wasted 1 hour for both sales and finance manager to wear them down, repeated time after time that I'm only there because of 0% and I cared mostly about the interest, tried to sell me an extended warranty for $2500 but they'd lower the interest to 4.09%, BINGO! That's the number the bank gave them since they always upmark the interest because that's how they make money; then I told them that it's lunch time, and I'd return in 30 mins after having lunch once they'd figured out their numbers (showed I was willing to go away), sales manager said he'd cally GM Financial again, no go on the 0%, he gave up, said 4.09% with no warranty and I signed for my car.

It's not easy, they try to guilt trip and lie to you, finance guy said Mustang and Challenger incentives are a lie and that those cars don't sell, pffft; remember, they are NOT your friends, they constantly rip people off, and if you have the means for a 2019, now is the times to rip them off instead.

BTW, my credit was 803, again, only reason I didn't qualify for 0% was the $10k I was rolling in, with great credit and a reasonable down payment, you can qualify for special financing and if you pressure the dealers they can bundle the discounts, I also qualified for $1750 in GM Cash and I wasn't counting on that.

I wouldn't exactly call that easy. Also, when you live in a relatively high income and populated area, they may be less willing to deal. When I went to the dealer near me, they wouldn't move on anything. I went in and left the dealership multiple times, multiple calls, they just weren't budging. Probably because they knew someone else would come in 2 weeks later willing to pay full price. Some places don't want to deal.

It wasn't easy, it's never easy, but it was well worth it, and I guess it depends on the type of Camaro, I got a 2SS 1LE (with $4k in options, yuck) which I assume is a slow mover, 1LT or LT1 Auto will be more difficult, with a 2020 I wouldn't have been able to pull that stunt either, year old manual low volume car on the other hand...

And this is sunny soflo, wouldn't northern dealerships be more willingly to budge?

The honest secret as stated above is you need to take the emotion out of the deal.

Don't sell yourself on a deal that wouldnt make sense to you if you were at home online looking at the numbers.

And remember you can be unrealistic on what price you want to pay, but if the dealer lets you walk with a number or better yet throws you out (asks you to leave), then you know you are getting all the money they are prepared to give you. MAYBE near the end of the month they will call you back in with a better deal, but most likely not.

And for the love of god get your own financing from a CU or your local bank. They will shop your credit out to 15 banks and NO the banks requesting your credit wont always label the pull as an auto pull, and that wont count to the wives tale of multiple inquiries in one day not hurting your credit score. It will. You can see on your credit file under the inquiry as to what type of pull and for what it was. If that doesn't match perfectly on each, the score algorithm wont pick it up and it will score you different.

If true, that may be the deciding factor to go with the Challenger or Camaro. But then again, Mustang has the 0% for the 19's and I really don't want another one. If it was something a little different maybe like a GT350 or Mach1. I'm also kind of waiting to see what the next STI and 400Z will come out with too...

BTW, how come I don't see the financing special on chevrolet.com? I can't seem to find it through a search on the web either, except for some dealer ads. I emailed one that had a car I may be interested in and asked if the 0% for 84 month is available for that car and he didn't answer me and said to call him.
