I found myself making some of the same excuses for not buying: I should wait and get a low mileage example for $10k less in a couple of years, or wait for the updated model to arrive because the car mag said it was worth waiting for. I ended up letting entire generations of cars come and go.

When i realized what i was doing (and how old i was getting), i got my sh*t together and had the car i wanted within 48 hrs. I say go for it!

It got worse. I contacted New Smyrna Chevrolet 55 miles away and I confirmed that I could come and test drive the car. After driving an hour the same thing happened. Car was inside and I was told I couldn't drive until we agreed on numbers. I have purchased 6 Chevrolets in the last 5 years...... Out of principal and the fact I have a text proving they said come on in and test drive it... Also when walking around the ZL1 I noticed the headliner failing out just like mine that needed 3 times and many weeks in the shop to fix. I was done and that I wasn't going to deal with this crap on a 60,000 car. I left and drove my 2SS home.

Does your windshield fog all over or your headliner fail?

My last 4 cars were camaros from the same dealer. The one before my ZL1 was a 2014 1LE that I had modded. So the salesman knew me and I asked if I could test drive a ZL1, see if I like it and then sell my 1le to have money down on one. They had no problem with that and actually let me test drive a 2018 they just pulled off of the truck. I loved it! The gen 6 with the supercharged LT4 is just that good. Anyway, we went through the sales dance. I tried to leave and the salesman asked to at least let his manager make me an offer. He came back offering what I owed on my current car, said no, came back 2k over, said no, 4k over, said no.....etc etc........ended up walking out with a new 2018 zl1! Sometimes the stars just line up in your favor!

The amount of misinformation in this thread is staggering. That being said; I am a corvette guy through and through. I went with the ZL1 over the Z06 for the transmission alone. The A10 is unbelievable. It is so good that I will not buy another Corvette until it has this transmission. You could mod a 2SS to be faster than a Zl1, but you will lose the warranty. Some people aren't happy unless they can mod the hell out of a car. It's really all about how you feel. Also, the LT4 overheating issue is horse shit. The ZL1 does not suffer an ounce from this.
All that being said, do whatever makes YOU happy. If you want to buy a car that is scorching fast and want a full warranty, the ZL1 is a no brainer. If you could care less about warranty and just want to mod the hell out of something, the world is your oyster.

The 2SS grill just looks 20xs better than the ZL1 grill. That's why I would never buy one.

I had an ss 1le on order but after doing some number and getting a hell of a deal I bought the Zl1 M6. Too many additional features on top of the power!

that doesn't make sense. If money wasn't an issue, then you shouldn't of considered it overpriced. Cus, if money isn't an issue, then nothing is overpriced.

Define "much less money"

I tried to build a 2SS into a ZL1- added the brakes, suspension, wheels, all of it came up to about $7-8K less than a ZL1.

$7-8K sounds like a lot of money but overlay that money on top of the ZL1 engine, tranny, rear-diff, exterior, and resale value.

Don't doubt you can make a faster car out of a 2SS, but all the money you pour into the car in mods you never see again, if not even hurting the resale value of the car. If you buy a 60K ZL1 expect to get 50K for it next year. If you buy a 35K 2SS and put 10K in, be happy if you get 25-30K next year with a voided warranty. Not to say you're buying for one year of ownership, but you never know what might come up, be it a car you want more or need to sell for other reasons. Speaking from prior experience on the lower-model-and-mod approach.
