If you guys think the addition of V6 and T4 1LEs diluted the name then guess what so did adding it to the ZL1! like I said I like the manual only aspect of the 1LE, but I realize that it really doesn't matter to me so big whoop.

As for mocking you guys...... Idk about the other dude but I only ever see you negatively reacting to stuff like this (mainly Z/28 related stuff), so yea when you are always trashing this stuff people are going to mock you rightfully so lol

so yea, have fun Negative Nancy
I didn’t agree with the ZL1 getting a 1LE package. First off the name sounds terrible and second I didn’t see the need on the ZL1. I could at least accept it because there wouldn’t be a 6th gen Z/28. This was their only option to make a halo track Camaro.

Look at the Z/28. It went from a pure track car, to a grocery getter that had nothing to do with handling. So yeah, I won’t support that. It happened to the Z/28, the Grand Sport and the Z06. Now it’s happening to the 1LE. Bean counters and managers see something generating hype and want to milk it for every dollar they can, even if that means stripping it of everything that made it exciting in the first place.

At the big track at Willow Springs Raceway, we had Randy lap a SS 1LE, a ZL1 with a six-speed manual and a ZL1 with the 10-speed auto. The 1LE ran a 1:28.29. That's a great lap, especially when you consider that time is 0.1 second ahead of the previous-generation Camaro Z/28, which is a former BDC winner and track-focused monster with more horsepower and torque. Next up was the ZL1 with a manual. That stick-shift ran a blistering quick 1:26.16, besting the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport (1:26.28), a 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S (1:27.04), a 2015 Porsche Turbo S (1:27.17), and a 2017 McLaren 570S prototype (1:27.21). Impressed yet?

Next up was the ZL1 with the automatic transmission. Randy only managed a time of 1:26.48. That's enough to embarrass all of the European sports cars mentioned above but slower than both the Grand Sport and the manual version of itself. To be fair, Randy felt the tires' pressures weren't set correctly, and that the abuse meted out through Turn 8 was heating the driver's side front too much, causing understeer through terrible Turn 9 . The 10-speed should be quicker than the six-speed, but it just wasn't happening.

Randy strongly felt there were some tenths left in the automatic ZL1. He worked with a couple of engineers from Chevy and kept adjusting tire pressures and lapping. The result? An unofficial lap time of 1:25.87, recorded on the ZL1's optional Performance Data Recorder (PDR). A McLaren 650S Spider—a mid-engine, 3,239-pound, 641-horsepower, carbon-fiber supercar—does a 1:25.88. Yes, you read that right. The quarter-million-dollar McLaren got beat by a Camaro. But because our test team didn't run the numbers—meaning we don't have a Vbox data file of the lap—we have to asterisk Randy's lunchtime lap. It's simply not official. These things happen. But here's the thing: You're not supposed to mention Chevy's other sports car in the same breath as legit, flat-out elite supercars such as the Chevrolet flagship. But if the lap holds, the ZL1 has the eighth-best lap we've ever seen around Big Willow and is less than a second behind the best we've seen from big brother Z06 (1:25.00). What a world. More important, what a beast of a machine.
TLDR: A10 lap times were on par without tire pressure fiddling and faster with it.

Wonder if there will be increased heat with the A10 in the ZLE as there is with the A8 Z06 on the track that will cause possible overheating? I don't think it will be an issue in the ZL1 1LE like it is in the Z06. Time will tell as these cars get pushed hard on the track in the summer months.

I think this is awesome news!

There are many reasons to love a high performance sports car. But for me, In the end its all about who can get from point A to point B the fastest. And the 10A ZLE will be faster than the 6M PERIOD.

I get the love of the connection felt with rowing through your own gears. That's why I have a 6M Mazdaspeed Miata parked next to my ZL1 10A

And to be quite frank..this 10A that GM/Ford has come up with is really something special and quite fun to drive.

I found a way to have my cake and eat it too.

Options are always a great thing. It's good to see growth in this segment. For those who have been waiting for the A10 to show up in the ZLE, go get some.

GM Authority confirmed http://gmauthority.com/blog/2019/01/...-transmission/ that there will be "unique track mode calibrations" in the A10 for ZLE. As well as confirming recalibration to PTM and ELSD for 2019. To be perfectly honest, I am curious about these changes.

Mike has eluded to them in his 2019. Hello Mr. Dickens... perhaps a software update available for the 2018s???

With that said, I posted this a year or so ago. My feelings have not changed.

I understand that I will never be as fast as I could be rowing gears as I would be having my gears shifted for me by a computer. With that said, the experience (for me) is much more ethereal in analog than it is in digital. My connection with the car is so much more sublime in manual. When I am in that place, I will gladly give up a few 10ths per lap in exchange for the realization that it was my kindred bond with the guts of that machine that got me to my goals. As opposed to reaching that target via the latest digital technological innovation. Old school, I guess.

Whether on the track or on a Sunday drive, it's so much more satisfying to me to be an integral part of the mechanical workings in the alliance between me and my car.

If my livelihood depended on my lap times for food on the table and paying the bills; no brainer, give me the A10/ DCT. It doesn't, so I choose to fill my soul with the integral relationship between my skill set, my experience and my machine.

No question. If I were purchasing a ZLE tomorrow or, if I was in the market for a C8 or a GT500, I'd hold out for the manual.

...but I will take the software update!

I've often wondered how close the "regular" ZL1 A10 lap times would be to the 1LE if it had the same R compound rubber and wider front tires to match what is on the 1LE. Anyone on this forum try this already? I realize there are more differences than just the tires...just a hunch that the tires make a bigger difference than the suspension and aero. I could be 100% wrong. It didn't make a difference in my buying decision one way or the other...both cars are beyond my track driving ability to get the last few tenths off a lap time and I wanted something that's a bit more around town friendly.

I'm very interested to see what the A10 1LE published lap times will be...these 6th Gen cars are just amazing for the $$$.

It looks like the A10 on the ZLE will have a new transmission oil pan.

I'm not mad at all. I still think that on the SS 1LE platform, an automatic would have made it even more of a complete package than it is currently--and I love manual transmissions. Now that they're adding this to the ZL1 1LE, perhaps it'll find its way to other 1LE trims, too. Not that I'm in the market for another car but, that's pretty awesome.
