if you are in manual mode, the tranny will not shift until you touch the upshift paddle...it will hit the rev limiter which is pretty stupid programming. In other cars (such as AMG Mercedes) the car will upshift in manual mode at redline if you are slow to react or forget to shift. It baffles me why GM engineers would allow such a stupid event to occur.

This is easily changed in tuning, check out KingLT1’s thread on TUTD tuning. Once you tune the TUTD, you can have the auto upshifts like @ZL1Atlanta and I are talking about and still use the manual control.

I think there's good utility in this. Why have a manual mode otherwise? I can see a scenario where you're mid-corner, high speed, and the tranny makes an automatic shift, and it throws the car out of composure, maybe resulting in spinning out, or, at least requiring one to pull off the pedal, rather than maintain speed, to recover the car. It seems to me, the auto shift algorithm(s) make(s) up for this, so why have TUTD if not to hold the gears for as long as you want?...

Regardless - of that - it's good we have options to make whatever adjustments we want for our own car.

definitely a valid point, however, if at wide open throttle simultaneously at redline the only two choices are to hit the rev limiter or to shift. I will choose "shift" at WOT/redline as it will not abruptly cut power causing potential issues like you mentioned. At rpms lower than redline or less throttle than WOT, I want full control.

That makes sense. It's nice to have a choice to change it now at least

Don't we have three threads going here on largely the same topics?
