You're missing out then, there's better sound coming from the aftermarket systems but I understand not everyone wants to pay $2k for that. I use to be one of those guys that refused to pay for a catback exhaust because I always said the stock exhaust was good enough. When I installed an AWE touring exhaust on our C8 Corvette, I knew then I had to have it on my ZL1. I don't regret it at all and would gladly buy that exhaust again on another vehicle in the future.

I won’t dispute your assessment because I’ve never heard the AWE Touring exhaust on a ZL1 in person. It may indeed sound better.

I wish you could honestly. I would encourage you to find anyone nearby that has it installed to give it a listen. I certainly didn't spend $5K on catback exhaust for the C8 Corvette and my ZL1 for no reason, it really is that good.

OK, now I will assume there's no power to be gained by changing my catback except by removing it entirely and losing the ~70# weight

Very minimal power and some weight loss.

On an otherwise stock car, rump-end weight reduction is the only improvement from cutting off the suitcase, including the crimped pipes forward of the suitcase. And if you're a straight line kinda guy, deleting weight aft of the rear axle is probably not the 1st thing you want to go after. Power gains come when you start deleting cats. Aft of the cats, you only affect weight, sound and/or tailpipe bling.

Well, I was thinking an Anti-gravity battery and catback delete (maybe 100# total) would sort of even out the weight reduction on each end.

Would love to install one of those loud exhaust systems before switching to EV,, only problem is, in UAE car must have the stock exhaust while performing the annual reg. inspection or when selling.

I'm pleased with my Kooks axleback/Borla midpipe combo:

I suppose if we could dyno a car with and without an aftermarket catback we could quantify hp gain precisely, but here's what Corsa just said to me:

"It would be able to free up a few HP, as it will relieve all back pressure in the system (aside for the hi-flow cats)."

So the bottom line appears to be --- do an aftermarket catback for sound not hp.

Yep, very mininal. The reason being is that the OEM catback is already a dual 2 3/4" system if I recall and that supports a very high HP rating before it becomes a restriction.

I ordered the Corsa Npp because it's that only exhaust that truly goes from mild to wild. +12db change in sound from closed to open. I don't really care if it gains power or not. The problem with the stock muffler is it gets tinny and raspy sounding with any exhaust mods up stream that do add power. So plan on a axleback if you do headers or cat deletes.

Agreed on the OEM exhaust once you add headers and change the cats or remove them.

I've got Kook LT and green cats. I like how my exhaust sounds with stock catback and have no plans to change it. I'll test with the Camaro club this year, so I suppose it's possible that I will hear an exhaust that sounds better, but it's going to have to sound a lot better for that kind of money.
