SS 1LE axles? ZL1 parts?
So I have read in two places that the SS 1LE will have the ZL1 axles...
1- Do we know what exactly makes the ZL1 axles different (for sure), maybe it's due to sharing the E-LSD? 2- Is this just speculation, or has anyone else heard about this? The axles seem to be a weak point on the regular SS, as I have read of a few cases of them breaking, and a handful have had some of the bolts partly back out as well. So I would welcome a beefier axle... |

Well my guess is that the ZL1 and SS 1LE will most likely share beefier axles… why do I think this? Well the ELSD has a much wider width then the regular pumpkin, so since these two cars share that item I cannot see them developing two separate axles. So this would not only benefit the ZL1, but would greatly benefit the SS 1LE being that it has less power to worry about. This is just my speculation… But I think it could very well be the outcome. I am 99.9% positive the regular axles will not work with the ELSD...

I got the part numbers for the left and right regular SS axles, if someone has access to the actual GM parts system I would assume the new ZL1 axles are in there...and we could see if the part numbers are different, and look up the eLSD. GM Parts direct doesn't list any 2017 parts yet...

Agree with your analogy, if I would have read your first question thoroughly on OP, I would have seen where you stated that the ZL1 and 1LE share the eLSD. I Thought the SS had the eLSD. My bad.

Just a little bump. Curious, has this been determined yet?

They are not the same axles...but the SS 1LE does have a shorter/stronger right side axle compared to a regular SS. Also, the supplier of all Camaro axles have changed, they apparently had issues with the old supplier, and switched to a new one for '17.

On another ZL1 and 1LE parts comparison, someone mentioned in another thread that the ZL1 and 1LE share the same fuel pump (sounded pretty certain), so wonder if that is true or not?

Would the axles of a regular 5th gen Camaro SS fit on the sides of the rear differential of a Camaro SS 1LE ?? or are the holes bigger/smaller for axles to fit ?
