Using 18-inch wheels

Hey guys. I've been getting frustrated at how hard it is to find good tire selection (esp used racing tires) for my ZLE with 19s.

Are any of you running 18s? What wheels are you using?

Thanks

Yes, but I haven't really found the selection of tires to be that much better...

Borrowing apex 18x10 et25 from a friend's BMW to use slick take off tires.

I also have 19x10 & 11 that I have 305/325 supercar 3 tires on for B street autox

I have confirmed the Apex wheels 18x11 clear ZL1 brakes. Forgestar also has 18" models that will. Seems many lower cost 18" brands will not.

So 18 x 10 et25? Square set up? What tires are you using on those? There are discontinued Hoosiers that I think would work on an 18. They have tall sidewalls to make up for the loss of ground clearance.

I wouldn't run that set up on your ZLE. You need more tire than a 10's wheel can offer.

I'm currently using 18's with 315/30/18's all around, Nankang AR-1. The tires are GREAT, but the size isn't perfect. Car is definitely a bit looser now, needs more rear tire.

I've run 315/335/30/18's Nitto NT01's and they were HORRIBLE on this heavy of a car. Absolute shit. I gave them away after a day. 4 seconds off the pace of the stock G3R.

I've run 305/315/680/18 Pirrieli DH slick take-offs and they were ok. I'm not a huge fan of using slicks at track day events for a few reasons. I'd consider using a 305/325 660.

I've used multiple sets of stock G3R's, a set of 19" Hoosier R7's, and a set of 19" DH slicks. The point is I have tried a lot of tires and I haven't really found one that is a better overall package to the stock G3R's.

The car's electronics don't like square tires. I've had e-diff and TC/Stabilitrac issues. It'll work ok if you are comfortable running with everything off.

I've thought about trying a 305/345/35/18, but it is about a 4% split (stock is 1.6%) and the rear tire would be almost an inch taller than the factory 325/30/19.

I'm going to try 18's one day, but, just remember on ZL1's (I have ZL1 brakes on my SS 1LE), there is VERY little clearance to the caliper for rubber clag, rocks, etc. I have test fit BC Forged and Apex that friends have and found only 3-5mm clearance.

I have a set of BC Forged in ZLE specs, but 18".

As stated, the clearance is VERY tight. My calipers now have melted rubber clag on the top. I also have a nice incision around the inner circumference of the wheel where it looks like a rock may have been caught for a spin or two. I also nicked an apex curb too hard once, which caused a bit of a flat spot on the inner rim. This very minimal bend was enough to cause the rim to hit the strut each spin. The clearance is that tight. I now use a 3mm spacer just for precaution.

I have a 18 SS 1LE , I will be testing the 18x10s et 25 at the track for the first time this weekend. So far only confirmed they fit with regards to clearance ( brakes & struts )

I will be using pirelli slicks mostly because they are free and already mounted size 265/645-18

They measure about 10.5 in wide of rubber .

Just to follow up I used the Apex 18x10 et 25 most of the weekend at the NASA event at CMP last weekend. I was able to get my TT license and ran ttu Sunday. Did not beat my PB @ a 147.1 but did a 148.6 which was enough for second in TTU.

No rubbing issues with the wheels at all but would like wider tires for next time.

This Corvette took first

I also think anything narrower than 11" in the back would be a downgrade all things equal (meaning similar compounds, definitely not comparing to slicks to OEM tires as there are so many other factors that may play a role)

I recently have my tires mounted and balanced on my Apex SM 10 wheels 18x10" front and 18x11" rear with (295/30/18 F and 315/30/18 R) As you may see from the photos they don't look like balloony even though 18" tires have more sidewalls and they're 10mm wider tires on the same wheel width (compared to 285/305 on OEM wheels). Ideally I would love to see some 18x10.5" and 18x11.5" custom fitment for my SS 1LE to run 295/315 or 315 SQ but oh well...besides since I don't have the Multimatics, even after grinding the knuckles (with my previous 1LE) 18x10.5 +14mm wheels were slightly rubbing with -3.0 camber

This is how they look. I will be testing them on March 23rd:
