Catback install help

How on Earth do I remove this clamp?? It's on the driver side between the primary and secondary cats on my 18 SS 1LE with NPP. I have the AWE Catback and performance link pipes to put on but I can't get this one clamp off. The whole thing feels loose and I can move the bottom of it. Only part that is snug is up top by the stud. I'm lost and tired and sure I'm missing something silly. This is also being done on a garage floor so any tips will save me alot of swearing

That clamp has a small tack weld at the top preventing it from being removed. You’ll have to cut that weld to remove it.

Isn't that weld part connected to the outside of the clamp and the inlet pipe? That shouldn't effect the outlet pipe from being pulled through right? Does anyone have any pictures?

Catback install help

I thought your were asking how to remove the clamp. The clamp is welded to the primary cat side of the exhaust. If you don’t want to remove the clamp but just remove the pipe, then just give the pipe a good solid tug or two. I had to take a rubber mallet and bang on the secondary cat to get the pipe to separate from the coupler.

Fair warning, if you leave the clamp on and try to re-use it, you may get a leak. I did. I had to remove the clamp and use an accuseal clamp in its place.

The pipe slides off, but the clamp is spot welded and also has a "raised lip" around it.

To remove the clamp the pipe needs to come off first

The AWE system comes with a new clamp that goes there. So I have to be able to get the pipe off, then cut the clamp? Or cut the clamp then remove the pipe?
It's already fairly loose and the pipe won't budge

Loosen the clamp, pull the pipe off then cut the clamp off.

Yes that is the plan! However, the "pull the pipe off" portion is where I am stuck. Clamp is fully loose, yet pipe wont move at all

Cut it before removing the pipe, that's what I did

Cut the welded part on the top? Just using a Dremel tool will do the trick?

I took a hack saw blade and cut it. That gave me enough room to just use that to cut it by hand with the shortened blade. If you can get a Dremel up there, great. Space is limited so the hack saw blade worked like a charm for me.

Just to confirm, you cut on the bracket that is welded to to primary cat pipe and the clamp itself?
