Camshaft swap question

So in the June 2019, road & Track is an article about the Custom "Flyin" Miata upgrade where they drop in a GM LS3 V8 in the Mazda. Page 77:

"Flyin' Miata offers two variants: the wild, 525-hp version in this car and a more civil 430-hp iteration. The only mechanical difference between the two is a General Motors ASA camshaft."

My question; can an ONLY a camshaft upgrade increase HP that much?

It seems too good to be true. That's like a supercharger boost.

With our Camaros only with the cam shaft no way. If you add a header, CAI and a good tune than could be. If the cam shaft is sharp enough maybe with the Miata works

uhhhhh…. NO! If you could get 80hp out of a cam alone you'd be a zillionaire

a lot of ls1 cars easily got 60 whp +/- from a cam and tune, esp m6 cars. those are smaller, much less efficient engines. i am presuming cam and supporting mods...

With a cam and supporting mods (headers/intake) you will see gains of around 100-110rwhp all day. We just did a TSP VVT3 cam on a M6 car and picked up 130rwhp with a cam, headers, intake and flex fuel tune.
