ZLE rear brakes on SS

Hi Guys,

I did try a search on this but couldn't find an answer so I apologize if there's already a thread somewhere. I was wondering if anyone knew if I needed anything besides calipers, rotors, pads, hoses, and rotor bolts to put ZLE on the rears. I'm upgrading the front to SS 1LE and I want reds on the back to match. I was quoted around $400 to powder coat plus car downtime and I'd rather just upgrade if feasible, especially since I'm probably due for new pads soon anyway. Thanks.

If all you want is red calipers save yourself ALOT of money and headaches and just paint them. Even the fronts. No reason at all to upgrade if you aren't tracking the car. If you are tracking then the 1LE fronts are a worthwhile upgrade, but still just paint the rears.

The price to paint them and the downtime added along with the fact that I'm around replacement level already makes it easier to just upgrade. Yes, I plan on tracking the car. I would also prefer the aesthetics of the larger rotor.

To answer the original question, yes that looks like the correct parts to make the switch. Not sure what you mean by rotor bolt though? Just the bolt that holds the rotor to the hub when the wheel is off? Not sure you'd need new ones of those, would think the original work.

IMO, I'd suggest keeping all SS 1LE brakes or all ZLE brakes. The ZLE brakes are slightly larger than than SS 1LE on all 4 corners, and mixing/matching like that would likely result in a changed brake balance. Will it be enough of a change to matter? I can't say for sure since I've never tried it. Willing to bet it's going to be noticeable at the very least, but might also be significant enough that it could be detrimental to track performance. Food for thought at least.

Fair point, I’ll consider it. Didn’t think it would make that much of a difference since SS and 1le use the same rear brakes but there’s a huge difference in fronts going from 13.6” 4 piston to 14.6” 6 piston.

Yes, I am aware. It’s a $600 part, about $500 from thatgmparts guy. More expensive than powder coating existing but less down time. Still think at that price I can upgrade calipers and rotors and put on new pads that I would need anyway for under $1k.
