Putting mine away for the winter in a couple of weeks. Just had the oil changed (5700). Anybody use ZMax? Wonder if it really helps coat parts to prevent issues while it sits for 4 months. I use a battery tender and Stabil and don't plan to dick around starting it once a week or so.

Let me add some more mud to clear up the subject...

I've got an '04 Chevy truck with the oil life monitor in it. The first 50K I changed it religiously at 3000 and I had the dealer do it because they kept sending me coupons for an oil change at a price I couldn't even by the oil and filter for. So why should I get my hands dirty, it thought. They always put a sticker on the window that told me to come in after 3000 miles or 3 months which ever came first. 3000 miles ALWAYS came first and that's when it got changed. I assume they used conventional oils, but I've never had a problem with the truck and it now has 95K on it.

Now after over 6-years they are not sending me coupons anymore, so I buy oil and a filter and change my own. I've switched to synthetic and extended my changes out to 5000 to 6000 miles. I noticed no difference in performance no matter what oil I used, but "they" say that synthetic lasts longer so that's why I've pushed out the interval. I still don't get close to what the oil life monitor says I should go to. I usually have 50-60% or better left according to the computer, but I'm old school and I change it anyway.

There... That's MY story and I'm stickin' to it!

In July 1996, Consumer Reports published the results of a two year motor oil test involving a fleet of 75 New York taxi cabs and found no noticeable advantage of synthetic oil over regular mineral oil.[18] In their article, they noted that "Big-city cabs don't see many cold start-ups or long periods of high speed driving in extreme heat. But our test results relate to the most common type of severe service — stop-and-go city driving." According to their study, synthetic oil is "worth considering for extreme driving conditions: high ambient temperatures and high engine load, or very cold temperatures.

Answers my question. And I used to like Bruton Smith.
Thanks
