its my experience they are basically a 1 time use plug wire. after removing them once they've been installed, i never felt like they snapped back on properly. also no matter what kind of coil they went on, the coil side would back off a click after a few heat cycles. lsx ltx whatever. there is only so much shaping you can do with the boot given the primary design.

i had granatelli wires on the car for years with repeated install/removal and they felt and performed the same every time. very high quality part. msd and holley in general piss me off if we're going there. they went 0/3 on correct parts/bolts/hardware on my project car. and don't get me started on their plastic intake manifold quality control.

Agreed, the Granatelli wires are excellent.

Ive had speed engineering headers for about 5 years. I wrapped them and got some heat resistant spark plug wire covers on the initial install. Never had an issue

A weekend later I was driving normally and I started smelling a burning plastic smell. It looks like the portion of the steering shaft that has a plastic cover has started to melt. I had brought a question up to the installer who works on a lot of Camaro's and Corvettes about any precautions to take for the increase in heat from headers. They said they haven't had any issues other than spark plug wires which I had getting replaced with upgraded ones. I asked on the Facebook group and after filtering through 80% of the BS responses some have said it's a cover and cut off the burning plastic piece and others have suggested using some sort of heat wrap. Any suggestions on what to do with the extra heat? Am I going to have to bite the bullet and have the headers pulled off and wrapped or can I just cover up spots I can reach with some exhaust wrap or DEI gold tape? Thanks in advance.

Regardless of header brand it’s best to either coat them or wrap them, I personally have the 2 inch speed engineering headers I personally wrapped them and installed them myself. I swapped my wires to the pertronix flamethrower ceramic spark plugs, no issues at all. The ceramic boot cannot melt unless it’s crazy heat which the heat wrapping helps reduce as well. Preventive measures go a long way.

I would attribute that to the Speed Engineering header collector angle along with improper boot shaping when install on the spark plug side. We never have issues with MSD wires with uncoated ARH and Kooks headers.
I wrapped the harness with a glass kevlar heat sheath because I couldn't find anywhere to relocate it to. The best I could do was push it as far against the car body as possible. Where did you relocate it to?
