LOL...and a lot less insurance. I still have everything covered by way of adding riders to my current policy, but nothing I've done has any impact on the overall rates I pay. Of course it's not exactly the same car as the ZL1, but once I add forged pistons ($1200) it'll be pretty damn close.

Yes...see my sig. Add 15% to the rear wheel numbers for power at the crank to get the manufacturer's advertised HP and torque.

Very interesting. I'm not a person who's interested in modding. I'm just a "as is" kind of person. I thought about a SC but decided against it.

Get the ZL1 or look for a used Z06. Currently brand new 1LZ Z06's are selling for $72k at Kerbeck....12% off msrp, which is a great deal.

Love them both but with the reduced weight and new interior of the 6th Gen, I can't own a 5th Gen over a 6th Gen Can't go wrong with either or! |

Sorry, my bad for not reading this correctly - I thought you were looking at the new ZL1. If you're open to modding the car, the gen5 ZL1 is on a much more mature platform. Right now you can easily take that car and destroy any gen6 numbers - even those of a modded gen6 like mine. The one downside is the interior. The car looked like a dinosaur brand new...it won't age well. It's really your call. If I was going to mod and didn't care about the inside, I'd go gen5 ZL1 all the way.

I made the same choice myself I think it depends on what you want to use it for. Both cars can do anything you want.
Assuming you don't have strong opinions on 5th vs 6th gen styling and there isn't a significant cost difference between the two: Daily driver- 6th gen SS Track/ HPDE car- ZL1 Autocross - 6th Gen SS Drag race- ZL1 barely Good news is you can do everything in both cars. I think the ZL1 is a little more unique, but it's not like you see tons of 6th gen SS yet either though. 5th gen Z has already taken a good chunk of the depreciation hit as well assuming you are looking at a used one. If you will do a lot of driving in it, the 6th gen SS will be easier on the wallet. Less gas, cheaper tires. Good luck.

Love the insight. I already have a GEn 6 SS. The interior is what made me go 6 over 5. But seeing the Gen 5 Z for the price made me wonder, debate and fantasize. I use my 16 SS as my weekend, BS day, out with my wife car. The Z if I got it would purely he my car, muck around car. I want it for the body style, supercharger and horsepower. The interior sucks and is extremely dated but it's tolerable, given I have a DD and the 16 SS.

As far as the new ZL1 is concerned, that's an option as well. I would trade in my SS for that! The money I would use for the Gen 5 Z, put towards the new Z. Thing about that is, why do all that for ONE car when I can keep what I have and get the gen 5 Z. I love my SS to death. Amazing car in every way. Also the 13 Z is is 44k out the door, so looking into a 72k Vette isn't an option for me at this time

Another thing that attracts me is the exclusivity. I've never seen a ZL1 on the road before. Car shows but outside of that, never. I've seen about 3 16 SS so far in the last 7 months.
