I did this mod a few weeks back. Normal temp driving around is now 170deg. The engine oil temp is pretty close to matching the coolant temp so it is also around 170. I let the car idle for an hour in my garage with the hood shut and the garage got up near 100deg and the coolant temp did rise to 190deg. That seems decent to me, before I would see 228deg pretty easily. Even the iat’s are down about 20deg, keep in mind my set up draws under hood air.

No idea if it helps power but i am pushing it pretty hard and feel a lot more comfortable with the lower starting temps.

What do do you have to change in the tune to compliment the lower T-stat?

There’s a whole bunch of fan tables. That and a mechanical thermostat temperature setting that should be changed.

Cool thank you for posting that.

I brought up my HPTuners app and see where all those changes are except how to get the table "[ECM] 18060 - Fan Desired % vs. ECT vs. Desired ECT" to show a columns like yours.

Your Columns start at 150.0, 170.0, 180.0, 190.0, etc
Mine is "195.8, 197.6, 204.8, 206.6, etc etc..

You can change that axis. I can’t remember exactly how but it wasn’t hard.

Keep in mind these settings are for my car. With the turbos sucking underhood air I wanted to command the fans to run all the time. Might be overkill or even annoying for some to have he fans running all the time.

I did read somewhere not to command 100%. If it runs at 100% for too long the fan wiring connector can get hot.

Then I made a catch can out of a 2 liter coke bottle, so as I removed the large hose from the thermostat housing it all drained into it.

Im getting ready to do this. Just curious if it's still necessary to drain the the little reservoir/aux tank all the way first or just set something under the Tstat housing to catch a few ounces and remove the 3 bolts and quickly swap it out?

Thanks!

Much easier to open the reservoir cover, and just loosen the petcock on the passenger side corner bottom of the radiator and the tank drains immediately.

Wouldn't I need to get the car up on the ramps, and remove the underside panel to get to that petcock? If so it may be easier to drain the upper reservoir with a little turkey baster I've used many times before. At least if thats the entire goal of using the petcock to empty the reservoir.

I forgot about that panel that I have removed a long time ago and leave it off, but you can remove it by just lying down on the floor and removing the fasteners.

Yeah I went ahead with your method. Pulled the car up on ramps and removed the panel. Drained the coolant down until it emptied the upper reservoir and swapped the Tstat out no problem.

Thanks!

That's great, sorry bout that, I did forget about me leaving that panel off. I was just under the car (lying next to it with my head partially under) and you can see and touch the yellow petcock twist knob with out lifting or driving up on a little ramp . That closure panel does nothing, mine has been off for 9300 miles
